Helen Carson Obituary

Helen "Nancy" (O'Neil) Carson, 78, departed this world peacefully on Saturday, January 3, 2015 in the comfort of her home in Berlin, surrounded by her loving family and caregivers. After graduation from Mount St. Joseph Academy in 1954, Nancy earned a degree from the Boston School of Dental Nursing in 1957. Married in 1959, Nancy moved several times but always returned to the family summer home at Grove Beach, and eventually to West Hartford where she raised her three children. The beach was a particularly special place for her, and the memories of sailing, knitting, crewel hand work, reading, playing bridge, bon fires in the sand while smoking cigars, and Memorial and Labor Day parties with multiple generations of loving neighbors were cherished. Nancy worked for many years at Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance in Hartford before retiring in 1987. Nancy's laughter and zest for life and fun continue to ring throughout the CT shoreline. She will be missed dearly by all who had the joy of knowing her and being known by her. Nancy is survived by her loving children, her son Jim, and grandsons Tyler Jeffrey and William James of West Hartford, and daughter Judy Carson of Manchester. She now joins her oldest child in heaven, Jeffrey Thomas, whom she has missed every day since he passed in 1988. She is also survived by her brother Francis James O'Neil of North Hollywood, CA. Nancy will be especially missed by her life-long best friend Joan (McGrath) Donahue of West Hartford, and her close friends and neighbors in Berlin, Grove Beach in Westbrook, and West Hartford. She held a special place in her heart for the dogs who gave her so much love, Nemo, Tut, Teddy and Desi. The family would like to thank Betty Kyomuhendo and Eva Ballard for the tireless hours of tender love and care they provided to Nancy over many months. Her funeral service will begin on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 9:00a.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington followed by her funeral service at 10:00a.m. at the Wellspring Church, 222 Lincoln St., Kensington. She will be laid to rest in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, from 4:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at Newington Memorial. The family requests that memorial donations may be made in her memory to the SPCA of CT, Inc., 359 Spring Hill Rd., Monroe, CT 06468-2100 or at www.spact.org. Dear Jim, I am sorry for your loss. I have strong memories of your family and house on mountain road. I did not get a chance to express my condolences for jeff passing. I was in law school at the time and found out at a later time. I hope you and Judy are well under the circumstances. I lost my mom nine years ago on February 7th. So I have some idea of how you must feel. -Mark lee

My sincere condolences to the family for the loss of your loved one. May prayers strengthen you and memories comfort you, and may our Lord Jesus Christ and God our Father, who loves us, comfort your hearts and "make you firm". (2 Thessalonians 2:16, 17)

Dear Judy, Jim, and all who loved Nancy,

I am so very sorry for your loss. I came to know Nancy through her friendship with my mom, Betty Grady. All my memories of Nancy are bright and happy. i loved her laugh, the twinkle in her eye, her wonderfully expressive face, and what was, to me, her signature expression: "Honest and true!" She lit up every room she entered. I know she made my mom's life richer, and I am so thankful to her for that. She reached out to me after my mom died, sharing stories of their escapades together and comforting me at a very difficult time. I am thankful to her for that, too. Her kindness made a difference. There is nothing I can say that will take your pain away. But, I hope it helps a bit to know what a difference your mom made to me and to my mom, and how much we loved her. I wish you peace.

Nancy had the best laugh. It was in fact contagious it would float between our houses growing up at the beach signaling good times. The Stueck, the O'Neil, the Carson, the Welch, the Davidson clan and the Tragakes families were the best neighbors even becoming family. No one could have wished for a better group of people with even second and third generations becoming fast friends. Over the years the neighborhood has lost many but the memories persist. Nancy, time to party with Clare, Phil, Jackie Gaga, Rosie and Uncle Bill and mom Helen. Like Clare always said it has to be 5 o'clock somewhere. Rest in Peace. Priscilla

Dear Nancy's family,
I was saddened to read of Nancy's passing. I was the Realtor who sold her the house on Savage Hill. I had visited her a few times since she bought but it's been awhile since I was last there. She was a loving soul who loved her dogs immensely! She is now free to breathe deeply and be without any physical limitations. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you travel life without her.
I feel badly that I will be unable to attend either of her services.

Sincerely,

Chris
