Herbert Weischedel Obituary

Dr. Herbert R. Weischedel, 88, passed away suddenly at his home in South Windsor, CT, on September 3, 2021. Herb, as he was known, was born in 1933 in Feuerbach, Germany. Herbert was the only child of the late Rudolf and Pauline Weischedel. He lived through WWII with his family. He was the first in his family to go to college, and he ultimately earned his Ph.D. He married his wife Christa, immigrated to the United States and established a family. In 1980, Herb and Christa cofounded NDT Technologies, Inc. He was an innovator with multiple patents for sophisticated technology to test the safety of wire ropes in various fields. NDT Technologies, Inc. was his passion, life's work and legacy. He was a devoted husband, family man, and friend. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, of 58 years, Christa Weischedel, his daughters Anne-Katrin Weischedel and Christina Deptulski, his son-in-law Stephen Deptulski, his grandchildren Aoife Weischedel and Aidan Weischedel, and his sister-in-law Brigitta and her husband, Uli Krueger. His family will have a private funeral. A Celebration of Life is planned for the future. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Doctors Without Borders or Habitat for Humanity in his name. So sad to hear this news. Please accept my sincere condolences from myself and on behalf of IMES International. I had the pleasure of meeting Herb for a few days at NDT Technologies HQ in Conneticutt and when he visited Aberdeen, Scotland and it was clear to see his passion for his company and his invention. I loved being in his company and listening to his career stories was fascinating. A true expert academic in his field and to keep working up to the age he was demonstrated his passion for his MRT Equipment and the company, NDT Technologies Inc.

Christa, great news to see that you are staying on with the business. I will arrange to give you a call in a couple of weeks and I am so sorry for your loss. Take care and all our love from Scotland - Kevin

It has been a genuine honor and privilege to have known, collaborated, and worked with Herb over the past two decades. His focus, creativity, and dedication to the advancement of the science and engineering of magnetic wire rope inspection has been an inspiration. Despite advancing years, he maintained a word-wide leadership in the field, continued to innovate and promote this technology, and was respected around the globe. Personally, I valued the time spent with Herb, who invariably had an interesting and unique perspective on a curious and diverse set of social, economic, and political topics. He was always generous and kind with his time and resources. May his memory be a blessing to all who have known him.

It is with great sadness to hear of the passing of Dr. Herb. He will always be remembered with fondness. What a great man and was a privilege to be one of many of his colleagues and most of all to be able to call him friend. His passion and drive will be forever a guide for me and I will miss being able to discuss challenges and solutions. Rest In Peace Dr. Herb you ran your race well.

Rest in peace and may God bless my dear friend Herb. What started as a technical work relationship grew into the establishment of our very own mutual appreciation society. Your "keep it simple" philosophy on technology development speaks volumes to your many years of success as a global leader in non-destructive wire rope inspection systems. I will miss our nearly weekly technical and worldly conversations by phone or over a meal at the Mill. My deepest and most heartfelt condolences go out to Christa, Anne-Katrin and Christina. Thank you for sharing Herb with me and many others.
