WEINBERG, Jack Lewis Jack Lewis Weinberg, 70, of Orange, died peacefully during the evening of Saturday (September 25, 2004). Beloved husband of Sheila (Schechtman) Weinberg for 47 years; cherished father and mentor to his three children and their spouses, daughter, Debra Harvey and son-in-law, Peter Harvey of Potomac, MD; son, Howard Weinberg and daughter-in-law, Lulu Swedroe-Weinberg of Surfside, FL, and son, Neal Weinberg and daughter-in-law, Nurit Weinberg of New Rochelle, NY. A loving role model to his eight grandchildren who were were the light of his life, Jared, Corey, Charla, Roxanne, Anton, Adam, Ariel and Noah. He also leaves his dear siblings, Dr. Abe Weinberg of Bloomfield, Lillian Berman of Fairlawn, NJ, Anne Goldman of West Hartford, and Bea Goldberg of Avon. He was a devoted son-in-law to Sylvia Schechtman of West Hartford. Born in 1934 in Hartford to Rabbi Nathan and Sarah (Hurwitz) Weinberg, Jack graduated from Weaver High School and Trinity College in Hartford. He received a M.Ed. from the University of Hartford, and received a post graduate degree from the Williams College School of Banking. His career included teaching at Canton High School and the Beth El Synagogue Hebrew School, West Hartford. He served as Vice President at three area financial institutions, General Bank & Trust, Connecticut Savings Bank, both in New Haven, and Lafayette Bank & Trust of Bridgeport. As a ten year old, Jack survived the July 6,1944 Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus Fire in Hartford. He lost many dear friends, but was miraculously unharmed himself. As a result of this experience, he never took a single day for granted. His adult life was filled with varied activities. He was an amateur actor, a little league coach and a past member of the Town of Orange Board of Finance. He was Chairman of the Bryant College Parents Committee and the B'nai Jacob Synagogue Endowment Fund. Most recently he served as Justice-of-the-Peace, and took great joy in preparing special ceremonies for the couples he joined in marriage. He will be missed by his many friends and relatives. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 28, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford with interment in the Beth Alom Cemetery, Allen Street, New Britain. The family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday following the funeral at the Goldman residence, 71 Lyman Road, West Hartford; then at the Weinberg Residence, 338 August Drive, Orange, through Wednesday afternoon.
