Jacqueline Sylvester Obituary

On November 29, 2023, Jacqueline Jeannine née (Blain) Sylvester died peacefully at Riverside Rehab Center in East Hartford.

A lifelong resident of East Hartford, Jeannine was devoted to raising her family. In her sixties she earned an associates degree from Manchester Community College and served many years as a crossing guard for the East Hartford School System.

Over the years Jeannine enjoyed painting, riding her bicycle, doing yoga, and walking her trusted companion, Tiger. She loved reading the Hartford Courant in the morning with her coffee...lots of coffee. She loved the forsythias blooming in the Spring, pizza from Hartford Road, and rolling through the neighborhood with her dedicated son and caregiver, Bruce.

A mentor to many friends, Jeannine was embraced as a grandmother, a Mémere to a few of the neighborhood kids like Brandon, Alejandro and Xavier, and a maternal confidant to neighbors, especially Jen and Patti.

She is survived by her sister, Louise and her family; her sister-in-law, Eileen; her daughter-in-law, Joan; and her Aunt Mary (that's right, her aunt!). Let's not forget her sons Craig, Brian and Bruce.

Jeannine is finally reunited with her daughter Lisa, her parents Aurore and Louis, her brothers Roger and Maurice, her sister-in-law Carol, and her dear friend Rita. And of course, Tiger.

Friends and family will be invited to a private celebration of Jeannine's life that will take place at a future date.

Jeannine. My sister. She was a giving person. I will treasure her paintings . She was Mrs. Santa Claus giving treats to the school children and cheering them with tiger. Peace and love, Louise

Some of my earliest memories of Aunt Jeannine included visits to their apartment around the time Bruce and Brian were born. I thought it was the coolest place. Aunt Jeannine was a lifelong friend to our mother Carol - always checking in on her as she became ill later in life. Jeannine introduced our mother to her brother Maurice, our father. They are all together again.
I remember Aunt Jeannine as a kind soul, always ready to help others in need. She will be remembered by us through some of her paintings that were passed down from my parents. She was a very good artist!
Our condolences to Bruce, Brian and Craig. She is together again with Lisa.

Oh I just loved Jeannine. She was a member of the " New Way" group in E. Htfd. that met at the nursing home where she lived (Riverside). It was the E.H. Nursing home back then, I believe (1980´s). She and Little Rita..... oh the memories. She was a very well respected woman and full of life. Bobbi Fox, Arlington TX (formerly from E Htfd & Manchester CT)
