I would like to share my most vivid memory of Jim……and it is from his High School days. Jim and his best buddy, James Flynn (who was killed while serving in the military), were in my Study Hall one year. They could best be described as “spirited”!
At one point, I was called out of the room…..and it wasn’t for a very long period of time. Upon my return, everything that was on the top of my desk had been arranged/stuck to the blackboard in the exact position it had been on my desk!
What creative, innovative ideas he had even then. In my 36 years of teaching at Danbury High School, no one ever matched that innocent prank.
My deepest sympathy to Jim’s family on a loss much too soon.

Mayor James Dyer was a nice man. He was my neighbor when I was just a little boy and he always greeted me and his house was the best place to go 'trick or treating'.
Years later, I had the honor to work with his sons in a City Summer program called 'Safe Summer' and as always Mayor Dyer was so nice when he would pick up his sons.
So sorry to hear the sad news. May God bless his soul and give peace to his wife and children.

Dear Alice and children, Our heartfelt sympathies and prayers are with you. Not only was Jim a good man, he was a great leader, taking time, as mayor, to visit with the various departments of Danbury City Government. Bob always enjoyed speaking with him whever he visted the highway department and was happy that Jim always took it upon himself to personally negotiate their contracts. He truly had a feel for Danbury and it's people. Your loss is also our loss.

In 1981 Mayor Dyer took the time to respond to a letter my fifth-grade son wrote in protest of the Danbury Fairgrounds closing. What a great lesson in civics for a young boy. He kept that letter for many years; it meant a great deal. Thank you, Mayor Dyer.

Back in 1986 I worked 3rd shift and was on my way to work on
route 7 heading south. My truck was was hit in the side by a car and
ended up in the woods. When I climbed out there was Mayor Dyer
asking if I was OK . I couldn't believe it was him.
He was a good man and a great Mayor.

Alice and kids- Jim was a treasure and we will all miss his presence in this world. His is a loss that many, many people are feeling and a memory that many, many people will cherish.
We were the kind of friends that didn't even need to communicate. We knew the other was there and would be there for us no matter what. Those friendships are rare. I will miss him.
I am sorry for your loss. He was closer to you, his family, than to anyone else on earth.
Sending Love...

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
