James Tuohy Obituary

James F. Tuohy, 95, husband of the late Dorothy (Sullivan) Tuohy of West Hartford, passed away peacefully Saturday April 17, 2021. He was born in Hartford, son of the late Patrick and Beatrice (Hurley) Tuohy on October 7, 1925. Jim graduated from St. Michael School and Weaver High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy immediately after high school and was stationed in the Pacific Theater during WWII, participating in the invasion of Okinawa on the LST 890. On June 2, 1951 he and Dot were married. Jim worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 38 years, retiring in 1981. He then returned to school at 55 years of age and achieved his Accounting Degree from the Morse School of Business, graduating first in his class. Jim went on to work at the Hartford Insurance Group and finally as the Comptroller at Mobile Redemptions, Inc. He was Vice-President of the Blue Hills Civic Association, member of St. Justin Church Holy Name Society, led the St. Justin Church Teen Club, and was very instrumental in fundraising for the Northwest Catholic High School Building Committee. Jim also loved spending time every year at Old Lyme Shores with his family. He always had a positive outlook on life, a zest for living and a great sense of humor. Jim had an amazing memory for people, events and dates, until the very end. He was very proud of his family, being a WWII Veteran, his Irish heritage, growing up in the North End of Hartford and cherished many lifelong friends from St. Justin Parish and the Blue Hills Neighborhood. In his later years, he always attended his grandchildren's recitals and sporting events. After his wife passed away, he thoroughly enjoyed living at The McAuley for three years. The Tuohy family would like to thank Avery Heights Unit Three staff for their outstanding care and compassion of Jim during these last few months. Jim will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Mary Lou Duffy and her husband Jim of Old Lyme, Geralyn Eagan and her husband Michael of West Hartford, his grandchildren, Audra Battistini and her husband Chris, Allison Froggatt, Michael Eagan and his wife Elizabeth, Kerry Ransford and her husband Derrick and Kevin Eagan. He will also be greatly missed by his great-grandchildren, Carter and Sydney Froggatt, Mia and Ryan Battistini, Tyler, Conor and Shea Eagan and William Eagan. Jim will also be remembered by his nieces and nephews, John Tuohy and his wife Mary, Pat Leonardi and her husband John, Nancy Frobel and her husband Carl, Michael Tuohy and his wife Kathy, Jim Tuohy and his wife Sue, Mary Anne Sullivan, Kevin Sullivan, Tom and Peggy Sullivan, as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Besides his loving wife of 65 years, Dot who passed away in 2016, he was predeceased by his brothers, Edward Tuohy and Jack Tuohy and his wife Millie, brother-in-law Bob Sullivan and his wife Pat, nephew Bobby Sullivan, niece Betty Ann Sullivan, great-nephew Mike Sullivan and his cousin Dick Healy. A Mass of Christian Burial Celebrating Jim's life will take place on Friday April 23, 2021 at 11:00 am in the Church of Saint Timothy, 1116 North Main Street, West Hartford. All attendees are requested to wear masks. Burial will follow in Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Road, Bloomfield. Dear Tuohy Family,
Although it has been many years, I still remember your family from St. Justin's. Your father enjoyed a long and accomplished life.
I am so very sorry for your loss.
Sincerely,
Ellen Lennhoff

Dear Geralyn and Mary Lou,

We are so sorry to read of your father's passing. He and our father enjoyed a long standing friendship that went back to their childhoods in the North End.

They remained friends until our father passed in 2008. We have many great memories of time spent with your family at parties and picnics. Your father had a knack for telling stories and engaging in interesting stories. Since we were half Irish on our mother's side, we loved learning about Irish heritage and customs from him.

Your parents were our sister Susan's Godparents and were always very good to her.

We are thankful for having your parents in our lives since birth. Our lives were enriched by knowing them.

We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
