James Wolfe Obituary

James L. "Jim" Wolfe, 57, of East Windsor, loving husband of Nancy C. Sheehan, died Tuesday, (August 20, 2002) at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Hartford, a son of the late James and Judith (Moller) D'Ancona, he had resided in Middletown for many years, where he attended Wesleyan University. He later resided in California and Maine before settling in East Windsor five years ago. Jim was a true renaissance man who enjoyed teaching snow skiing in Connecticut, Vermont, and Chile. He was an accomplished professional Freestyle skier in the 1970's, competing at the National Championships as a somersaulting professional. He went on to become a successful restauranteur at LaBocca Restaurant, Ziti Restaurant, Middlesex Rotisserie, all of Middletown, along with Pelican's Restaurant in Essex. He later became an accomplished sailor and Charter Boat Captain in St. Martin. He was also a playwright and filmmaker. Jim was also known as a "Master Craftsman" for his work in house design and construction and building furniture of aged wood. After his brother Tom died accidentally, Jim started the Nelson D'Ancona Foundation which funded a rescue helicopter, called "Eagle One", out of Chester to provide emergency services to individuals in need in the area of Long Island Sound. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Thomas D'Ancona. Besides his wife, Dr. Nancy C. Sheehan, Jim is survived by a step daughter, Makala Clifford of East Windsor; a brother, Jason D'Ancona in Norway; two sisters, Leita D'Ancona of Hartford, and Donalda D'Ancona; two uncles and aunts, Charlie and Gail Moller of Wethersfield, and William Moller in California; special cousins, Steven Moller and his wife Sharon of Cape Cod, MA, Marcey Hickey and her husband Brian of Granby; Jane Moller of Cape Cod, MA, Christopher Moller of Wethersfield, Deidre Moller of Wethersfield, Abby Moller-Mullen and her husband Charles Mullen of Granby, MA, Rhonda Moller in California; and dear in-laws; as well as many other loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews throughout the New England and Michigan areas. A memorial celebration of Jim's life will be Sunday, September 1, 1p.m., at his residence in East Windsor. Private burial will be held at the convenience of his family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the James Wolfe Fund, c/o Liberty Bank, 315 Main Street, P.O. Box 2700, Middletown, CT 06457. Jim was the 1st cousin of my husband, Gary Lucas. I knew Jim only thru the few times we all went out together when I first started dating Gary and from the many stories and memories Gary has of their years growing up together. Unfortunately we didn't keep in touch with Jim, procrastination taking over. We moved out of state and talked about how we should get in touch to see how we've all "matured" but, heck, we still had plenty of years to do that! Then Gary was treated for prostate cancer this past summer and the reality of mortality hit too close to home. Again we put off making a simple call. Then the ultimate eye-opener: we read of Jim's premature death. Though he appears to have gotten all he could out of life, I'm sure there was plenty more for him to enjoy. We are so sorry to hear of the years of living with and fighting the cancer that finally claimed him. Reading the beautiful article about what he accomplished and those he helped in his life makes us even sadder that we didn't take that step to reach out to someone that once had been a special part of Gary's life. The years we thought we had are gone with Jim's passing. We will always regret our naive thinking about having all the time in the world. Jim was a great guy way back when and it sounds like he remained that way thru his life. To his wife, sisters, and brother: we are very sorry for your loss.
