Jims varied interests led him to receiving his pilot's license in the 70's which allowed him to explore another passion fly fishing. His deep family musical roots carried on in him and he played jazz trumpet in many bands.

He spent his later years on the golf course with his best friend Bill, enjoying chocolate malts from cold cow, his Tuesday bible study group and holding a weekly bible study for the residents where he lived.
