Jeffrey Lukas Obituary

Jeffrey A. Lukas, 48, of New Britain, passed away on January 27, 2016. He was the son of Bruno and Theresa Lukas of New Britain. He was a lifelong resident of New Britain and graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 1986. He fought a long and hard battle with complication from vasculitis (Wegener's Disease). His family will never forget the remarkable strength and courage he displayed during a two decade battle with this terrible disease. Throughout it all, Jeff maintained his sense of humor and inimitable style. From his early childhood, Jeff enjoyed all animals, especially dogs and treated them like members of the family. The simple pleasures of life like walking his beloved Mika in the park and taking her everywhere made him happy. She was his faithful companion. The indescribable bond they shared will never be forgotten. In addition to his parents, Jeff is survived by his sister, Lisa Lukas; his nephew, Daniel Derks; his brother, Daniel Lukas and his wife, Alyson, and their children: Georgia and Krystof. He also leaves many aunts, uncles and cousins. The family expresses special thanks to the nurses and doctors of the Critical Care Unit at THOCC-NB especially Nicole, Stephanie and Anna for their warm, compassionate and exemplary care given to Jeffrey. A very special thank you goes to Dr. Steven Prunk for his sympathy and prayers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 30th at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, New Britain. He will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart Cemetery. To honor Jeff's request, there will be no calling hours. Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain is in care of arrangements. Memorial donations in Jeff's name may be made to the CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111. To share a message of sympathy with his family, please visit us at www.burritthill.com

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Lukas, Lisa and Danny,
We all have very fond memories of our childhood growing up next door to the Lukas family. We will always remember Jeff as a good friend and a kind and gentle soul who loved animals, had a quick sense of humor and was warm to everyone he met.
In the later years, he has been a great help to our aging parents next door whether it be watching out for their house when they were away or collecting their mail and newspapers. Our parents have always appreciated Jeff's kindness in helping them.

We are terribly sorry for your loss and we would like you to know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers.
Love,
The Sledzik Family,
Chester, Frances, Steve, Mary Beth, Sue and Peter
