John Darcey Obituary

On Friday, April 29, 2022 at 4:30 p.m., there will be an informal gathering at Charter Oak International Academy, 425 Oakwood Avenue, West Hartford, CT to remember, celebrate, and honor our friend and colleague, John M. (Jack) Darcey, who passed away on January 9, 2022. As teacher, department leader, and Board of Education member and chair, Jack impacted the lives of many people. There will be no formal agenda, but there will be an opportunity for anyone so inclined to speak about what their relationship with Jack meant to them. Light refreshments will be served and as the day chosen will be Arbor Day, a tree will be planted on school property in Jack's honor.

A wonderful man and fabulous teacher.

I owe my modest success as a world language teacher and administrator to Jack's role as mentor and friend over the past 40 years.
As a novice teacher in West Hartford Jack hired me, encouraged me, advised me and, most importantly, challenged me to take on additional roles and responsibilities within the world language department.
His love of the Spanish language and culture, his devilish sense of humor and his devotion to a series of canine "children" are what I will remember most vividly of this dear man.
What a loss for us all!
