DRUMMEY, John E. John E. Drummey, 71, a lifelong Longmeadow resident, died Sunday in Mercy Hospital. He was born in Springfield, April 20, 1935 the son of the late William J. and Olive (Gardinier) Drummey. He was educated in Longmeadow schools and graduated from the former Technical High School in Springfield. He was an active athlete, excelling in football and baseball, and an accomplished trumpet player. Mr. Drummey was a member of the International Typographical Union employed by the Springfield Herald and later the Hartford Times. He retired from the Carter Paper Company in 2000. He was a member of First Church of Christ, Longmeadow where he met his wife of 26 years, the former Linda Pratt who died in 1992. He is survived by a son Andrew G. and his wife Colleen (McDonald) Drummey, a daughter Deborah L. and her husband Steven Manning all of Longmeadow; two brothers, Charles E. Drummey of Ellington, CT and William J. Drummey, 2nd of Londonderry, NH; two sisters, Gayle L. Sheppard of Newark, DE and Olive W Shaw of Windham, NH; two granddaughters, Bridget Drummey and Olivia Manning, and he was happily expecting his 3rd grandchild. He was predeceased by his brothers William J. Jr. and James a Drummey. Interment will be in Longmeadow Cemetery Friday at 9:30 a.m. and will be followed by a Memorial Service at First Church of Christ, 763 Longmeadow St., Longmeadow at 10 a.m. Calling hours will be held today from 4-8 p.m. at Dickinson-Streeter Funeral Home, 305 State St., Springfield. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation at 41351 Garden City Dr., Landover, MD 20785-2260 or to the Richard Salter Storrs Library at 693 Longmeadow St., Longmeadow, MA 01106.
