John Mazzamurro Obituary

Having spent his life in service to others, John Thomas Mazzamurro, 77, beloved husband, father and grandfather, went Home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, February 19th. He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 38 years, Denise; his four children, Laurie, Jason, David and his wife Lauren, Jennifer, and his cherished grandson "little man" Aiden; brother Michael Mazzamurro and his wife Darleen, along with an aunt, uncle, many cousins, nieces and nephews, many friends, and his loyal 4-legged companion, Abbi. Born and raised in Hartford, John began his law enforcement career as an officer, then detective, with the Rocky Hill Police Dept., retiring as an inspector with the Chief State's Attorney's Office, Major Crimes Division. He received several achievement awards for his work in criminal justice and his service in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War Era; his dedication to his career was evident to all who worked with and knew him. In his retirement years, he enjoyed volunteering in the emergency department at St. Francis Hospital, the American Red Cross, and found the most enjoyment working with the North Carolina Brunswick County Sheriff's Department's Cold Case Unit. John was a member of St. Josephine Bakhita Parish, the Knights of Columbus, the Blue Knights, and the Old Pharts Motorcycle Club. Throughout his life, John loved nothing more than spending time with his family, traveling, riding his Harleys, and caring for his family and home. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, February 24th, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 25th, at 10:00 a.m. directly at St. Josephine Bakhita Parish at St. James Church, 767 Elm St., Rocky Hill. He will be laid to rest following the mass with military honors in Rose Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office, Attn: Cold Case Unit, 70 Stamp Act Dr., Bolivia, NC 28422.
