John J. Vercelli

John Joseph Vercelli (Jack), 79, of Manchester, Ct. died after a brief struggle with cancer, surrounded by his loved ones. Born to the late Angela and Joseph T. Vercelli, in Hartford, he was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Jill, and his brother, Louis D. Vercelli. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Joan (Kwasniak) Vercelli; son, John, of West Hartford; daughter and son-in-law, Jessica and Jake Koteen, of East Granby, and his precious granddaughter, Aubrie Koteen. He also leaves his sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Don Nolan, of Mansfield, Leatrice Vercelli, of Plantsville, and step brother and sister-in-law, Chelso and Ann Arrigoni of Westbrook, as well as their respective families. Jack attended West Hartford schools and graduated from Admiral Billard Academy, New London, in 1953. He served 2 years of active duty in the Seabees. He then joined Charter Oak Construction Co., where he remained until forming Piedmont Construction Corp. with his brother Louis. The company achieved awards for many of its roads, bridges and dams built throughout Connecticut. Notably, the Quinnabaug Fish Hatchery was the largest hatchery east of the Mississippi and is, today, a tourist attraction. Jack's many passions included a love for flying, boating and relaxing at his piano. He could be found anchored at Fishers Island on his ALL JAY enjoying family and friends or immersed in a book. Jack's sense of humor and willingness to help others will be missed by anyone who came in contact with him from childhood to his last breath. He had a gleam in his eye and a sly little smile that said "I hear you". And his "ALLRIGHTEEEE" greeting will especially be missed by his children. At Jack's request, there will be no funeral or calling hours. The family will celebrate Jack and receive friends on October 4, 2014 from 2-5PM at the Pond House Grille in Glastonbury, CT.
