John Zubeckis Obituary

John Zubeckis, 76, of East Berlin, devoted husband of Sara Zubeckis, unexpectedly passed from our lives at his home on Nov. 28, 2017. John was a resident of Cromwell for 20 years, before moving to East Berlin in 1988. Born in Riga, Latvia, John was the only child of the late John and Mirdza Shubetski. With a curiosity about rockets and engineering, John graduated from Lyman Hall High School in Wallingford and went on to continue his education at Bucknell University followed by the University of Hartford. He made his career with Pratt & Whitney where he was employed for 32 years. During this time, John held positions of increasing responsibility, leading Manufacturing Engineering and Operations Plant Manager positions in both Middletown and Southington. He was a hardworking, honest man with great integrity who earned the friendship and respect of many. John retired from Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford in 1996 and has enjoyed the last 21 years spending quality time with his family, fishing, hunting, gardening, playing cards, working in his yard, traveling and dancing with his wife and their friends. He was a wonderful cook and his greatest joy was to entertain his children and grandchildren, along with his many friends that he considered family. With fond memories he will be remembered for his dedication to family, generosity, kindness, quick wit, wisdom, and the ability to fix almost anything. He was a member of Bethany Covenant Church. Beloved as the anchor for his family, John is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sara (Worthington) Zubeckis; two children, Sandra Coman and her husband John of Portland, John Zubeckis and his wife Stephanie Lango of Wallingford; four adoring grandchildren, Thomas Coman, Nicholas Coman, Zachary Zubeckis and Julia Zubeckis; brother-in-law Leroy Worthington and his wife Patricia, sister-in-law Jane Saulenas and her husband Jack, along with several nieces and nephews, and many cousins. Calling hours will be Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017 from 4-6 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 South Main St., New Britain. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017 at 11 AM at Bethany Covenant Church, 785 Mill St., Berlin. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Wilcox Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bethany Covenant Church, 785 Mill St., Berlin, CT 06037; St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to the charity of the donor's choice. John was such a warm and delightful person to be around . His wonderful sense of humor was so contagious that he always had an audience that was so enraptured . He always had a great joke that left us all in tears of laughter . He was loved by so many and will be so missed . His was a candle that was always burning so bright that will never go out in our hearts . Until we meet again my dear friend may God wrap you in his arms
and keep you safe . You are our so loved .
