June Rosenblatt Obituary

June (Miller) Rosenblatt, of West Hartford, passed away on June 20, 2021 from brain cancer. Born in "1802" in Brooklyn, NY to Sam and Norma (Elli )Miller, June graduated Erasmus Hall High School, and maintained her friendships with Frayda, Poqui, and Lester since then. June went on to earn a BA and an MA in Education from Brooklyn College. She later earned advanced degrees from the University of Hartford and St.Joseph College and was certified in the Orton-Gillingham reading method. She married William (Bill) and they had Lisa Sara and Marc Joseph. June was a special education teacher in NJ, prior to moving to Hartford. She then taught at Annie Fisher, Fox Elementary, and Hartford Public High School. To this day, when she would run into a former student, they addressed her as Mrs. Rosenblatt, as she refused to accept being called "Miss". After she retired, she supervised student teachers at the University of Hartford, and later became a docent at the Wadsworth Atheneum. June was a patron and lover of the arts. She attended numerous venues in NY, CT, the Berkshires, and Europe to enjoy plays, concerts, art shows, movies, and dance. She also enjoyed international travel, her book clubs, women's group, League of Women Voters, bridge, canasta, Scrabble, shopping (and returning), gardening, tennis, fencing, skiing, dancing, volunteer work in Hartford, and acquiring a plethora of objects in order to "give them a home".June was predeceased by her parents, sister Charlotte, husband Bill, son Marc, and parrot Pericles. She leaves her daughter, Lisa, who resides in West Hartford. June's nephews, nieces, goddaughter, numerous friends and acquaintances will dearly miss her quick wit, "June-isms", her offers for a cup of tea, her inquiries into their lives, and her desire for stimulating and provocative conversations. Many thanks to Dr. Ahmed Daher and his neuro-oncology team at Hartford Hospital, and Drs. Marcie Migliorato and Patricia Defusco and their staffs for their care over the past year. A memorial service will be held at a later time, so friends/ family should check their emails for future information. Donations in June's memory can be made to the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, the Southern Poverty Law Center, or any other charity of the donor's choice. Consider yourselves hugged.

June was a dear friend and we were members of the book club, originally led by Helen Pearl, of blessed memory. I was shocked to read of her passing, and offer condolences to everyone who knew her, especially her daughter, Lisa. I would very much like to be included in a notice of the memorial service mentioned in the newspaper. She called me weekly when my late husband died, and we shared many stories throughout the years. I loved the way she exuded energy when she entered a room, how she always had a good word for everything, how she shared her intelligence on so many topics, and how thoughtful and caring she was. I miss her dearly. Roberta J. Buland [email protected] phone: 860-214-5367. I so look forward to honoring her memory at the planned memorial service.

I was never her student but during all 4 years at HPHS I do not remember not seeing Mrs. Rosenblatt with a smile.

I knew June as a loyal and engaging docent at the Wadsworth Atheneum. Her smile and gentle demeanor will be missed by her museum family.

June was always the first at a new museum show or at a new film. She could be counted on to be interested in what was important culturally. She will be missed.

June was my mom's comrade until her passing ten years ago, and has been my friend for all my adult life. I say "friend", but she has always been like family. Hostess of the majority of my Seders, the majority of our Thanksgivings, and the "intellectual balance", to some of my political endeavors.

June exuded kindness. She had a passion for so many things, and a curiosity for things that were outside her realm.

May she and all the loved ones she touched have peace.

Mrs. Rosenblatt was my sons' Special Education Angel when he was in the second grade. She accomplished so many goals with him and he loved her! She even taught him how to type and he was only seven! We've spoken of her often over the years. She was truly a remarkable educator and will be sorely missed but never forgotten. Prayers for her and her family.
