HERMAN, Kenneth
Kenneth Herman passed away at home on Sunday (January 6, 2013) after a hard fought and courageous battle with Leukemia that lasted two years. He was born on Aug. 20, 1937 in Bronx, NY to the late Milton B. and Anne (Levine) Herman. Ken is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Daryl Kleper Herman. They were married Dec. 22, 1957. He was a devoted dad to his children - his daughter and son-in-law, Janet Herman St. Marie and Anthony St. Marie of Manchester, CT and his son and daughter-in-law, Howard M. Herman and Laura Herman of Newington, CT. Ken was an adoring "papa" to his granddaughter, Stephanie Kate St. Marie, who was the light of his life. In addition, he is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Calvin and Diane Herman of Quaker Hill, CT and his sister, Carole Herman of W. Newton, MA. Ken was employed at the Bureau of Business Practice for 29 years, retiring as Vice President of the National Sales Force in 1994. While Ken was a resident of Uncasville for 37 years, he was a member of several boards and commissions, including the Charter, Planning and Zoning and Parks and Recreation. Also, he managed a successful political campaign for the office of First Selectman. Ken served as the president of the Montville Jaycees and Big Brother of Southeastern CT, coached a Babe Ruth baseball team for several years, and as a participant of the golf league scored a hole-in-one. When he became a Colchester resident 15 years ago, Ken transferred his membership from the Montville Rotary to the Colchester Rotary. He was an active member of the organization, and was honored to be named a Paul Harris Fellow. May his memory be for a blessing.
The family will receive guests starting at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester before a Chapel Service at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Ahavath Achim / Jewish Aid Cemetery, Colchester. Donations in his memory may be made to Autism Speaks or Hospice SECT.

Daryl,
We hope you can endure this loss a bit easier when reading all the tributes Ken has received here in this guest book. My 25 years working with Ken at BBP was the true highlight of my life. Ken was a total 'giver' in all aspects of his life. He honored me by being my closest friend in the work world and in retirement. Only smiles come to me when remembering the fun we shared. He did get his Harley ride, forgive me.
