Ken was a dedicated teacher and coach. He built an educational sports program at Granby High School that developed young men into great people even though we may not have been the state champions. They don't make many like him anymore.

When I started teaching at Granby in 1962, Ken was one of the first faculty members to befriend me. He and Nancy Duncan swept me into the Granby athletic world where I attended games and worked with the cheerleading team. At Ken´s urging I met another teacher, Seth Harris, whom I eventually married after Ken´s constant urging. He took such a paternal and caring of me (us) even after our careers concluded. He was a very special man.

My condolences to the family and friends of the Ken King.... he was a class guy! I played for him from 1961 to 1964 and will never forget the example he set. He stood for integrity. I am afraid that I failed him as an athlete, but know that I learned to make better choices because of the leadership he provided.

Coach King was truly an educator committed to his students and student athletes of GMHS. Tough but fair, but also understanding and compassionate in his demeanor. I was fortunate to play interscholastic sports during his time as athletic director, his commitment to the program was unprecedented, the many State Championships and athletes produced in his time, are a true testament of his tenure. Make sure you didn't walk on his gym floor in street shoes or you'd get a ear full. Rest easy Coach

I spoke with Coach five years ago and this is an excerpt of a letter I sent him after our long call.
"There are just a handful of people in one´s lifetime who help to mold you into the person you strive to be remembered as. Clergy, scout leaders, educators, coaches, bosses, and peers. I can name the five who have meant the most to me and you are one of those persons.
Since my graduation in June ´63, I have never forgotten you or the lessons I learned from you in PE and on your basketball and baseball teams."
My condolences to the King clan.

Coach, thank you so much for your mentorship and guidance over the years at Granby High. You inspired players and student alike and you will forever remembered, with gratitude, by all who you coached and mentored. I for one, have been most grateful for your mentorship to this very day, 55 years later. My you rest in peace in the arms of the Lord, Coach.
