Kevin Green was a student in my class during my first year of teaching in 1978 at Martin Luther King Elementary School in Hartford. He was a student who faced some challenges but with the continuous support of his wonderful mother, Ms. Duretta Green, he was able to overcome those challenges.
I was given the opportunity to work with Kevin and his mother, along with his fourth, fifth and sixth grade teachers, and together we watched him evolve into a decent, hard working, successful young man while he was a student at M.L. King School. I was fortunate to have had Kevin with me for three years until he moved on to the middle school level.
As a young teacher, I learned a great deal from him and I also learned early in my career that with the support of a dedicated, loving mother, great things could be accomplished.
I am heartbroken to hear of Kevin’s passing. I send my deepest sympathy to Ms. Green and all of Kevin’s family and friends.
