Laura RAPPORT Obituary

RAPPORT, Laura Max Laura Max Rapport, died at age 96 on June 14, 2010, as she wished, in her home in West Hartford with family surrounding her. She was the wife of the late Reuben Rapport, and the daughter of Rose B. Max (Sklarinsky) and Max Sklarinsky, who emigrated from Russia and founded S. Max Furriers in Hartford. Laura attended Dean Junior College. Her three older sisters, Doris Hurwit, Julia Meuly, and Kay Brody, predeceased her. Laura was an accomplished pianist, artist, and bridge player. She served on the Board of the Greater Hartford Jewish Federation and on the Ann Randall Arts Committee of the Jewish Community Center. She and her husband were charter members of the former Cliffside Country Club, where they were avid golfers. She leaves her two daughters and sons-in-law, Riki Brodey and Dr. James Brodey and Eve Tarre and Gerald Tarre; her grandchildren, Drew Brodey and his wife, Eugenia Erlij, Denise Brodey, Roger Tarre and his wife, Nancy, David Tarre and his wife, Laura; and her great-grandchildren, Ariel and Ezra Brodey and Emily and Toby Kessler. She became very close to her dedicated caregivers, Carnetta Ellis (her best friend), Sandra Ledger, Lezline Glen, and Melissa Francis. The funeral will be held TODAY, Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. in the Silberman Chapel of Congregation Beth Israel, 701 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford with Rabbi Michael Pincus officiating. Interment will follow in Beth Israel Cemetery, Avon. Relatives and friends are welcome to call after the services and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, June 16 and 17, at the home of her daughter Riki Brodey in West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Laura and Reuben Rapport Fund of the Jewish Community Foundation, 333 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford, CT 06117, or to VNA Health Care of Greater Hartford Hospice, 103 Woodland St., Hartford, CT 06105.
