FORBES, Leon Dick
Leon Dick Forbes, 84, of Harvest Hill Road, West Simsbury, husband of the late Dorothy Colleen (Bainbridge) Forbes, died Tuesday, (November 27, 2012) at McLean in Simsbury. He was born April 17, 1928 in Kingsley, IA, son of the late Jay and Agnes (Freeman) Forbes and had lived in Fort Wayne, IN prior to moving to West Simsbury 42 years ago. He served in the Army as a member of the 82 Airborne. Dick attended the University of Iowa, graduating with a Masters Degree in Mathematics. Mr. Forbes was an Actuary and retired from the Travelers Insurance Company as Senior Vice President. He was a member of the Simsbury United Methodist Church, the Society of Actuaries and the Appalachian Mountain Club. Dick enjoyed hiking, biking, learning to speak Italian and traveling throughout Europe. He is survived by his three sons, Thomas Forbes of Odenton, MD, Steven Forbes and his wife Lisa of Shaker Heights, OH and Mark Forbes and his wife Eve of Longmeadow, MA; six grandchildren, Scott, Camille, Emily, Nicholas and Charles; his sister, Dorothy Donehoo, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Dean Forbes.

My husband Lawrence enjoyed breakfast with Dick on Saturdays at Peaberry's every Saturday for the last couple of years. The three of us had lunch twice. I worked for him at The Travelers where his achievements were outstanding.
