Leona Remkiewicz Obituary

REMKIEWICZ, Leona (Ramsey) Leona (Ramsey) Remkiewicz, of Rockville, entered into the arms of the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, (October 1, 2004) at the age of 85. She was the beloved wife of Jerome S. Remkiewicz. Born and raised in Stafford Springs on August 7, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Archibald and Aurelia (Tellier) Ramsey. Leona and Jerry married on April 26, 1941 and made their home in Rockville where she was a devoted, loving, wife and mother. She was and is our angel. Leona was a devout and spiritual parishioner of St. Bernard's Church for 63 years, where she always found such peace and comfort. Leona's immense love of family, friends, and life will always be cherished and remembered by all who knew her. She had a special way that warmed our hearts and a quality that made her the wonderful person she was. Her love for bowling, her special teammates, and her love for bingo was known by all who knew her. Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Jerome P. Remkiewicz of Charleston, S.C.; her daughters, Virginia Johnston and her husband Roy of Vernon; Teri Pagani and husband Frank of Ellington; her sisters, Laura Czapala; Elaine (Day) Malloy of Florida; Evelina Belliveau of Munson, MA; her brother, Ernest Ramsey of Stafford Springs; her eight grandchildren, Mark, Christine, Diana, Jeremey, Travis, Kelly, Lynn, Melissa and 12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers, David Ramsey, Leo Ramsey, James Ramsey and her sisters, Irene Schuman, Theresa Kelly, Cindy Cartier, Alice Ramsey. Friends may gather on Tuesday, October 5, at St. Bernard's Church, Rockville, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Family and friends may call at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville on Monday, October 4, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center or to the Palliative Care Center at Hartford Hospital. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Peter Schauer, Dr. Paul Vignati and to the Palliative Care Center at Hartford Hospital.
