Marc Silver Obituary

Marc D. Silver, 68, of West Hartford, on January 23, suddenly, at home. He was born March 25, 1952 in Pittsburgh, the oldest child of Rabbi Harold and Ruth Lee Silver. He moved to Connecticut when he was a teenager, but still rooted for Pittsburgh sports teams all his life. He graduated from Holy Cross in 1974 with a degree in history. He spent most of his professional life in the financial industry, first for Connecticut National Bank, then as head of transportation for the Hartford branch of Bank of America, and then for several mortgage companies. He married his wife Beverly in 1986. Everyone who knew them could tell that they were completely devoted to each other; neighbors called them "two peas in a pod." He was also a dedicated stepfather, endlessly supportive and caring. He was kind, generous, quiet, and steady; the person that everyone else counted on. He was an active member of the Simsbury Light Opera Company; and Congregation Beth Israel's Brotherhood and choir. He enjoyed golf, had an incredible mind for trivia, and loved reading nonfiction, especially about 20th century history; he had just finished reading President Obama's autobiography. He is survived by his wife Beverly, stepdaughter Rebecca Slitt of South Hadley, MA; sister Jenny Silver and her husband Lauren Kaplan of Leverett MA, sister Molly Silver and her husband Marty Teicher of Brookline MA; nephews Micah Snyder, Eli Burstein, Judah Silver, and Ezra Burstein; and great-nephew Caleb Snyder. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Michael. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Civil Liberties Union (aclu.org) 125 Broad St. 18th Floor, New York, NY 10004; or the Music Fund or Silver Courtyard Fund at Congregation Beth Israel, 701 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, CT 06119.

Sending so much love and prayers to Bev, Becky, and the rest of Marc's family. I don't think I've ever seen a more loving and devoted couple. Whether singing in SLOCO or sitting in the audience of a SLOCO show, it was always the two of them together - full of love and support. We will miss you, Marc.

My deepest sympathy to Bev, Becky, Marc’s sisters, his family and friends. He was truly a gentle man and a gentleman. Totally devoted to Bev. I had the pleasure of singing with Marc in CBI choir and years ago with Simsbury Light Opera Company. He will truly be missed.

Bev and Becky, my deepest sympathy is yours. Marc was the gentlest of souls. I was so blessed to witness the great love he had for his bride and the pride he had for his daughter. My fondest memories are all the fun we had with SLOCO and Choristers and of watching him laugh. You will be in my prayers. Love, Fran
