Marie Douaihy Obituary
Marie S. Douaihy, 89, of Avon, died on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at home surrounded by love. She was born July 24, 1928, in Lebanon. She immigrated to the US with her husband Sarkis and children, Victor and Therese. Marie was a resident of Avon, a communicant of the Church of Saint Ann and a dedicated mother and grandmother. She devoted her life to her children and grandchildren, she had a love of all children and worked at Pooh's Corner in Avon as "Miss Marie". Marie was happiest spending time with family, cooking, attending mass and reading. She also enjoyed sharing stories of the beauty of Lebanon and her life there. She was a strong independent woman who could light up a room with her smile; a beautiful person both inside and out. Marie is survived by six children, Victor Douaihy of Florida, Therese Adams of Avon, Renee Forsander and her husband Karl of Farmington, Joseph Douaihy and his wife Laura of New Hartford, Antoine Douaihy of New York, and Grace Preston of New Hampshire; and ten grandchildren, Danielle, Keith, Rachel, Jason, Evan, Andre, Maria, Anthony, Alexander and Madison. Relatives and friends may join the family for calling hours on Monday, January 29th, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Tpke, Canton, CT. Funeral will be Tuesday, January 30th, 11:00 AM at the Church of Saint Ann, 289 Arch Road, Avon. Burial will follow at St. Ann's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marie's honor can be made to Gifts of Love, www.giftsoflovect.org.

To our dear Grace and her family,
To the Bowens, Grace is a friend who has become family. She has been there for my stepmom, Joan, as the closest of friends for years. She was at our Sharon, CT home when I proposed to my wife, Carolyn. She motorcycled around the world with the Bowen clan, leaning into the turns and keeping all of us honest with her quick wit. This past summer when my father passed, she was always by our side with comfort and that quick wit--knowing when to use one and not the other. I never had the pleasure of meeting Grace's mother, but the woman who raised Grace is a special lady.
We send you love and strength from DC, Grace.

To My Dear Friend Grace of 25+ yrs, please know you are in my heart and prayers during this difficult time.
And to your family who has welcomed me as theirs for many occasions, please know, the love and respect you had for your dear Mother/Grandmother, Matriarch Maria is a tribute to the wonderful family she so much loved and cared for!
Your Mom was always respectful, loved her church and God, and in my observations over the years, knew what was going on, even sometimes when she claimed her 'language barrier' with a wonderful laugh/twinkle in her eyes.
And her classy style will continue to be an inspiration to me to make sure I put on lipstick everyday! Hugs and best wishes to all.
