Martha Alvarez

Martha (Aznarez) Alvarez, 90, of Middlebury and Florida, beloved wife of the late Alejandro A. Alvarez, passed away on Friday August 24, 2018 at St. Mary's Hospital. Born in Cienfuegos, Cuba on May 12, 1928, daughter of the late Benigno and Luz Aznarez, Martha lived a wonderful life in Cuba. She lead an active social life and was a member of the Cienfuegos Yacht Club. After leaving Cuba she came to Hartford CT. She was employed for many years and retired from Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company where she worked in the Advanced Premiums department. Martha lived In West Hartford for 25 years before moving to Canton in 1991 then to Simsbury in 1999. After that she split her time between Florida and Middlebury CT. Martha is survived by a son, Alexander J. Alvarez, M.D. and his wife Mary Jane of Middlebury; her daughter, Martha T. Alvarez-Anderson and her husband Robert Anderson, of Wildwood, FL; three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Caroline and Louisa Alvarez; and many nieces and nephews here in the U.S as well as Cuba and France. Funeral procession will be on Saturday, September 1, at 10:45 AM from The Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Brigid Church at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. Calling hours will be on Saturday from 9:00-10:30 AM prior to the funeral services. Martha truly loved life and lived it with a sense of humor and laughter. Her family would like to express their gratitude to the St. Mary's Hospital Hospice and Vitas Staff for all their compassionate care.
