Martin Dexheimer Obituary



Martin R. Dexheimer Jr., 96 of West Simsbury, Connecticut died peacefully Monday, August 7, 2017 at UConn John Dempsey Hospital after a brief illness. Born on October 11, 1920 in Hartford, Connecticut, Martin was the son of the late Martin R. and Margaret (Morrison) Dexheimer. Martin graduated from Bloomfield High School class of 1940, served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII in the China-Burma-India (CBI) Theater and was a member of the Connecticut Carpenters Union. Martin leaves his wife of 67 years, Jean (McCullough) Dexheimer. He is survived by his three daughters Amy Barrett, and husband Lee, Janice Place, and husband Charlie, Laura Balsewicz, and husband Donald; and his daughter-in-law Elizabeth (Godbout) Dexheimer; his nine grandchildren Emily Bonaguide, and husband Marc, Britta Kons, and husband Josh, Elizabeth Anne McLeish, and husband Watson, John Farrell Dexheimer, Emma Place, Martin Place, Patrick Place, Sara Balsewicz and Michelle Balsewicz; as well as his four great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his son, John Dexheimer. Martin was an accomplished builder and carpenter and had an incredible love for life. He will be deeply missed. At Martin's request, the services were private. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association. The Vincent Funeral Home of Simsbury is caring for the arrangements. I will always remember Martin as a sweet, caring man. Having known him as a customer for lumber he would purchase for projects he was doing was a great pleasure. He would have the grandsons with him and of course can't forget that older blue truck. Peace be with you my friend.
