Mary Ferre

1924 - 2016

Mary "Chum" (Ciammella) Ferre, 91, of Berlin, passed away peacefully on Wednesday. She was the beloved wife of Cesildo "Cil" Ferre for 51 years. Born in New Britain on Sept. 30, 1924, she was the devoted daughter of the late Emmanuel and Pauline (LaRosa) Ciammella. Mary has been a long time Berlin resident, moving from New Britain in 1977. Mary began working at Fafnir Bearing Co. during High School due to the War and remained working there for 42 years, until her retirement. Mary was a member of St. Paul Church, Kensington and the St. Paul's Church Ladies Guild. She was very proud of her Italian heritage and was a long time member of the Italian Fraternal Society. Mary was also a member of the New Britain Musical Club and was in many Bowling Leagues. She enjoyed dancing, bowling, card playing, trips to the casino and reading. Mary's greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She was always ready for a celebration or get together. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Angelo and Eleanor Ciammella of Kensington, her nephew Michael Ciammella and his wife Barbara, her nieces, Lori Johnson and her husband Ron, Cindy Butrimas and her husband Tony, Candy Rockhill and her husband Linsey, her great nieces and great nephews, Maria and Anna Butrimas, Kirsten, Kyle and Nicole Johnson, Kelly, Mike, and Matthew Ciammella. Mary was predeceased by her brother Nicholas Ciammella, her nephew Nicky Ciammella, and her sister-in-law Angela Ciammella. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Paul Church, Kensington on Friday at 11:30 am. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday morning from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain.
