My wife and I and our two young daughters moved to quiet Ruops Road across the Street from the Geopferts, during the Dec. 1992 Nor'easter. When the snow finally melted there were little boys everywhere and they seemed to be multiplying? Our street quickly turned into street hockey central. I thought what did I do? At that point I decided I was getting the girls roller blades and hockey sticks, gloves, bats and put up a basketball hoop. That spring I was outside working in the yard and the man across the street came over to introduce himself. With his head cocked back to the side and looking out of a squinted eye he extended his hand and said, I'm Mike Giff- something? I loved his sense of humor and his sarcasm. I knew we would hit it off and I knew that we had a great neighbor. Mike was very generous and was always offering to help any time I needed it. In fact he was always trying to give me his Cocker Spaniel Cassie that trickled everywhere she walked inside and outside! When Mike and his clan moved through the woods to Adam Lane I regret that we lost contact. While Mike and his boys were going to sporting events I was taking my daughters to Girl Scouts and dance recitals. I would run into him around town and every time it was like our first meeting. I always laughed and left with a smile. I regret I did not keep better contact with Mike and I regret his boys did not take up dance. To Mrs. Geopfert, his brother and sisters and his boys; Mike, Steve, Dan, Brian and Joseph, Mike was a one-of-a kind guy that everyone benefited from his friendship. I am sorry for your sadness and it is impossible to say much to change that other than treasure the amazing time you had with him and keep his spirit alive.

We were stunned and saddened to here the news of Mikes passing. What a wonderful man and father. Of course our thoughts immediately turned to the endless skating and hockey in the wetlands between our houses that the Goepfert boys and our boys would do until it was too dark. If it wasnt our two families of boys skating among the trees it was the roller hockey in the culdesac or baseball at Lions Field. Mikes legacy will live on forever in not just the 5 boys, but all the young athletes of Tolland he coached, supported, and befriended. Our deepest condolences to Mike, Steve, Dan, Brian, and Joey and the rest of the Goepfert family. You are all so blessed to have your dad forever.

My wife and I had the privilege of meeting Mike and his family through youth hockey in the early 90's. Early mornings of JR. House practices at the Bolton Ice Palace. Helping us found the Connecticut Cyclones at UCONN. Aways being there for us. Mike, we need $500 for jerseys for the team Done. Mike, we need bag tags for the Cyclones Golf Tournament. Done. And on and on.....
I will always remember Mike as a guy who loved a great joke and a cold beer, of which we had many together. Dinners at Margaritaville in Storrs, parties at Cyclones parents homes. Although we had not seen Mike in the last few years, those memories are precious to us. We are so sorry to see him go, and we send heartfelt condolences to his whole family.
Rest in peace, Mike.

Im so grateful for the countless, and priceless, happy times I had in your presence. You live on in your 5 boys, and soon to be 5 grandkids, and you will always be remembered with lots of laughter And good cheer. Say hi to Marcel, Rory, Brian and the other Tolland legends who you are now no doubt enjoying up therewhat a cast of characters! Stay out of trouble! Love you always, my friend. God bless, O

As painful and sorrowful as this time is, we should just take a minute to reflect on the tremendous outpouring of true affection from all of Mike's friends and his growing family. This is Mike's legacy. He left us knowing he was loved and cared for by so many, including all of us in the Charbonnier family. Peace Brother...
