Michael O'Brien Obituary

O'Brien, Michael C. Michael C. O'Brien, 40, of East Hartford and formerly of North Carolina and California, passed away on Monday, (June 25, 2007) at St. Francis Hospital after a valiant struggle with brain cancer. Born in Hartford on February 10, 1967 he was the loving son of Arthur T. O'Brien and the late Joanna (Neos) O'Brien. Michael graduated from George J. Penney High School, East Hartford as a member of the Class of 1985 and from the University of California @ San Diego where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Economics. Michael was employed as a trainer by United Parcel Service and had a great passion for automobiles, auto racing, and Buddhism. Michael is survived by his father, Arthur T. O'Brien and step-mother, Hilde Mayranen O'Brien of East Hartford; his two sons, Andres O'Brien and Daniel O'Brien both of Stokesdale, NC; a sister, Nancy Arditte and her husband Bruce and their son, Blake, of Studio City, CA; his maternal grandmother, Fotene Neos of Manchester, NH; a step-brother, Christopher F. Mayranen and his companion Beth of Stoughton, MA; a step-sister, Stacey R. Mayranen and her friend Luci of East Hartford; his special dear friend, Angela Tanner in North Carolina; his former wife, Karina (Raygoza) O'Brien of Stokesdale, NC; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral service will be Friday, (June 29th) at 9:15 a.m. from the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, Cambridge Drive, East Hartford. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Thursday (June 28th) from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Michael's memory may be made to St. Francis Hospital Oncology Unit, c/o Development In-Patient Office, 114 Woodland St., Hartford, CT, 06105.
