Nancy C. Barker

Nancy Callanan Barker, 87, of West Hartford, died Friday 26 Aug 2016 at her summer home in Orleans MA. Widow of Wensley Barker Jr, she was the daughter of the late Paul E and Laura G Callanan. Born in Hartford CT, she was a graduate of Oxford School in West Hartford CT and of Vassar College, Poughkeepsie NY, Class of 1950, where she served as Class President. Mrs. Barker lived in West Hartford all her life and was a summer resident of Nauset Heights in Orleans. She spent her professional career in human resources at the Aetna Life and Casualty Co and the Hartford National Bank and its successor organizations. Long active in community service, she was a member of the Junior League of Hartford and volunteered at Loaves and Fishes. She was an active member of St James's Episcopal Church in West Hartford, serving on the Vestry twice, and as Secretary of the Women of St James's. She leaves a son and daughter-in-law, Wensley Barker III and Jinah Barker of Cos Cob CT, and two grandsons, 1st Lt Wensley Barker IV (USMC) of Kaneohe Bay HI and 2nd Lt Julian Callanan Barker (USA) of Ft Benning GA. Burial will be at 12pm on Friday, Sept. 4th in the Orleans Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, 10 Columbus Blvd, Hartford CT 06106.
