Regis Shannahan Obituary

SHANNAHAN, Regis Thomas Regis Thomas Shannahan, Corporate Attorney, dies at 46. It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Regis Thomas Shannahan, Esq., 46, an exemplary and accomplished man, husband, son, brother, uncle and friend. Regis passed away on Tuesday, (October 13, 2009) in Manhattan from complications of pancreatic cancer. To all who knew him, Regis was a source of strength and courage, kindness and laughter, love and devotion. And while his physical presence will be missed, his memory, spirit and joy for life will remain with us forever. Even in his last days, he retained his dignity, verve and his love for all he was connected to. Regis continues to express his love to others who have not yet but someday may know what a great person he was; he wished for his eyes to be donated so that the blind can see, and for his body to be donated to research so that others may be able to live a healthier life. Regis was a graduate of Central Connecticut State University, University of Mannheim, Germany and Fordham Law School Manhattan, and was an attorney with Sidley Austin, NYC. Regis leaves his loving wife, AnnMari, who provided him with immense pleasure in his life, and who gave selflessly of herself to provide Regis comfort in his final days; his mother Laura Dukes Vitti of Newington; his father Regis Xavier Shannahan of West Hartford; stepfather Benjamin Vitti of Newington; and his grieving siblings, Laura Montgomery and her husband Michael of Newington; brother Christopher and his wife Tina of Rocky Hill, his brother Michael and his partner Shawn Fongemie of West Hartford; and his youngest sibling, sister Nancy Williams and her husband James of Newington; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and extended family. Services will be held in New York City at a time and place to be soon determined.

To the Shannahan Family, my condolences on your tremendous loss. I am still at shock. We became friends in Mannheim and I visited him a few times. I will never forget when I was invited to your house at Thanks Giving in 1993. It was like being part of this lovely family. Last year I "googled" Regis and send him an email to his law firm account but never got an answer. I wanted to get back in touch ... unfortunately too late as I found out only today when I looked for him in the web again. Rest in peace, Regis. You and your family made a big difference in my life!

To the Shannahan family -
I knew Regis from NHS and our lives crossed many times over the years. My father and Regis Sr. were friends so our fathers and all the kids went to New Britian Red Sox games together, eating peanuts and throwing the shells. Also, every morning before school a group of us including Regis would meet in the Band Room to clap a cool and compllcated rhythm which would get us ready to start our day. These memories stand out because they exhibit that even as a teenager Regis was a wonderful brother and friend, which endured over the years. My heart goes out to the entire family. Regis will be missed.

I knew Regis at John Patterson elementary, JWMS and NHS '81. I was so glad we got to reconnect many times over the years (through less than 6 degrees of seperation he ended up knowing some of my friends here in Boston!).

I just wanted everyone to know that I was thinking of Regis, his ever smiling face and laugh.

So many people, past and present, held him in high esteem. He will not be forgotten.

With much love,

Barry

To the family of Regis - So many years have passed since our incredible childhood. Regis was life, and will always be remembered. I will never forget his long blond hair, before school gym at Patterson Elementary School, his speed and athleticism and his friendship. I am so sorry for your loss, and so grateful that I had the opportunity to share part of his young life. God bless him for all he has accomplished, for all those he has helped, and for all those who now have renewed hope in their future.

Dear AnnMari,Laura Victoria, Christopher, Michael, Nancy, Laura, Benjamin, Regis and Family....
My heart aches for this loss. Realizing how difficult it is for myself to accept it makes me realize that I can't even begin to imagine how difficult it is for you. Please know that we are here for any and all of
you...just as Regis was and as you have always been, for myself and my family.
I have many happy memories to embrace going back some 35 years, use them as I do to remember Regis, his smile, his laughter and his joy for life. Use them as I do to help ease the sting of his passing, of your loss, of our loss.
Find peace and happiness as he still continues to help others....why are we not surprised.

We Love You....
We'll Miss Him,

Rhom, Deb, Anna Mae and Lilah Rose
