Richard Grigorian Obituary

Richard "Dick" Grigorian, age 87, a life-long resident of South Windsor, passed away Friday July 2, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband, for 62 years, of the late Beatrice, "Bea" (Kavitsky) Grigorian, who passed away January 15, 2016. Born in Hartford, he was the son of Richard T. Grigorian and Marie A. DesFosses. Dick attended Hartford Public High School and graduated from Bridgton Academy in Maine. The romance and love story of Dick and Bea had started in high school. Their dedication, love and support were a tribute to a true love story. Dick was a natural entrepreneur. He started work in Hartford at Korvettes Department Store in rug sales. He then worked with Franklin Life Insurance Company where he did very well. He moved into the sales of oriental rugs with Danshon Rug Company. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to a partnership working with the South Windsor Hockey Arena and skating rink. He eventually became the owner/operator of the arena and then established a specialized arena consulting and mechanical company called Arena Operating Company Inc. He was multi-talented with natural skills for renovating and building. He completely restored his historic home in South Windsor and built his vacation home in Aruba as well as his office building. He retired seven years ago from all of his business ventures to spend time with his family. Dick and Bea were founding members of Temple Beth Hillel in South Windsor. They loved to dance, go on vacations, go on cruises, watch movies, go to the beaches at Old Colony, Old Lyme and Aruba, have dinners with friends and most of all share family gatherings. Dick loved engaging in good conversations. Dick's favorite song was "My Way" by Frank Sinatra, which said it all about Dick's life. He was a mentor to many and was recognized as a positive thinker always with a smile on his face. He loved the many animals on his farm, including the horses and goats, going fishing, horseback riding, and especially loved his dog, Whitey, who comforted him after Bea died. Dick was lovingly known to the kids at the arena and generally everyone, as "Mr. G". He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and brother. He is survived by 3 children: sons, Leonard Grigorian and his wife Carrie Jacques and Steven Grigorian and cherished loving daughter, Michele Grigorian and her husband David Fromson, all of South Windsor. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Sarah Grigorian, Rachel Grigorian, Gavin Grigorian, Zac Fromson and Hannah Grigorian, 4 great-grandchildren, his brother-in-law, Morris Kavitsky and his sister Constance Pelletier and many nieces, nephews and dear life-long friends. A graveside funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 7, at 11:00AM at the Center Cemetery, 993 Old Main Street in South Windsor. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of donor's choice. The family expresses a heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Hartford Health Care Hospice and his personal caregivers, with a special mention to Cindy during his hospice coverage time. May Dick's memory be a source of strength and a blessing. He will live forever in our hearts. Funeral arrangements provided by Hebrew Funeral Association, Inc., West Hartford.

Len, Steve, Michele,
The Dennis family is sorry for your loss. I spent a lot of time with Mr. G from the 70's through the 90's when hockey began to flourish and he made the SW Arena central to its development. I always enjoyed our conversations whenever we saw each other around town or over coffee at the rink.

Mr. Grigorian was a frequent customer. We had wonderful conversations. We weren't open last year so the last time I saw Mr. G. was in 2019. I'm truly sorry for your lost. In time, may wonderful memories take the place of the hole in your heart and sadness he has left behind.
