My husband Michael and I send our deepest sympathy to the family of Fr. Sherer.
Fr. Richard Sherer was a remarkable person – a man of God and a man of the people. I have known Fr. Sherer for fifty years. He was a young curate stationed at St. Patrick’s in Farmington with my uncle Fr. John Kelly, and I was a little child hiding behind my mother’s skirt. Fr. Sherer never let me forgot those days. I remember wondering why his license plate had F in front of his initials and being told the F stood for Father. More recent memories involve St. Brigid School where I taught First Grade. The students and
I loved his spontaneous visits to our classroom, which were always the perfect blend of holiness and humor. He celebrated the Last Supper with us on Holy Thursday. Too bad he was never in school the day that jolly Santa visited and brought candy canes! The gentle unassuming man, who was loved and respected by all, has left his mark in this world. Fr. Sherer touched the lives of countless people; I am glad that I am one of them.

To the Family of Father Sherer,
My sister, brother and I were also students at St. Brigid School...I graduated in 1997 but I would have to say one of my fondest memories was the priests visiting us during classes. Father Sherer always had a smile on his face..I remember vividly his welcoming wave hello, and of coarse his laugh. I know that he has a very very special place in heaven. I pray for his family and friends that they may be blessed during this most difficult time, just know that Father Sherer has touched many hearts! God bless ~ Christine Thibeault

To the Sherer Family: Countless hearts are grieving with you for the passing of Father Sherer. I was honored to teach at St. Brigid while he was Co-Pastor; and he was always so kind and supportive of all the students, faculty, and staff there. What a wonderful life to have been a blessing for so many others!

Father Sherer was one the kindest people I have ever met. From my days at St. Brigid School right up to when I saw him last he was never without his warm smile and that boistrous jolly laugh. He was a wonderful person and he will hold a very special place in the hearts of the St. Brigid family forever.

To the Sherer Family,

It is with great sadness in the passing of Fr. Sherer. He was a kind, compassionate and gentle soul and will be missed by all those who knew him. He never missed an event at the school or the church. I was honored to have known him not only as a student but also as a parent. We so loved him when he dressed up as Santa for the kids. I will remember him in my prayers as he always remembered us in his.

Fr. Sherer was one of the most beloved priests St. Brigid ever had. I was privileged to get to know him and we so enjoyed his stories of growing up in West Hartford, his "haunted" house, and his wonderful sense of humor. We loved that he always came "home" to us at St. Brigid. He will always be our chaplain in the Ladies Guild and hold a special place in the hearts of all in the parish. We will miss him tremendously but now he is truly home.

To the Sherer Family
Father Sherer was a very special man and will hold a very special place in my heart for the kindness and compassion he showed my family during a very difficult time in our lives at the loss of my nephew years ago on July 4th. He was the one who answered our phone call and came immediately to be with us and console us. He never left our side. He gave a beautiful homily the following Sunday mentioning my nephew in the homily. For many years he remembered Jake and for this I will forever be grateful. I will never forget his kindness and his words during a very difficult time. May he receive the rewards in heaven that he earned and deserves. I will forever remember him in my prayers.

Dear Sherer Family,
Please accept my prayers and deepest sympathy on your loss. Father Sherer was so special to me and to my entire family. He ministered to us at the most tragic time in our lives. He attended every event that he could to support his St. Brigid parishoners, including high school graduations. My favorite memories of him are especially meaningful at this time of year. He loved to don his Santa outfit and visit with the children at St. Brigid School. My daughter couldn't wait to get home to tell us about Santa's visit to her school! His warmth, sincerity, humor and gentle manner touched so many lives. He will always be remembered with love.
Sincerely,
