Rita Coon Obituary

Rita (Grassi) Gotta Coon, 79, died Monday (December 2, 2002) at the Portland Care & Rehabilitation Center. Rita was born in Middletown on January 14, 1923. She married Henry J. Cotta and lived in Portland raising three children, Jim, Charlie, and Jo-Ann. They retired to Sarasota, FL and enjoyed warm weather and golfing together. After the death of Henry, Rita remarried Charles E. Coon Jr. where they resided in Sarasota. Chuck and Rita then built a home in East Hampton, so she could be closer to her family. When Chuck passed away in 2000, Rita moved to Heritage Commons in Middletown. Besides her children, Rita is survived by two sisters, Mary and her husband Sam Scotti, and Lena and her husband John Bozzi. She will be greatly missed by all, including her children and grandchildren, Stephen and Carl Guild, Robert and Nicholas Gotta, Anna and Jesse Goodrich-Gotta. Several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, John Grassi and Raymond Grassi. A Memorial Mass to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Mary, 51 Freestone Ave., Portland. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date in St. Mary Cemetery, Portland. There are no calling hours.
