Rita Catherine COYLE

Rita COYLE Obituary

COYLE, Rita Catherine (Harrison) Rita Catherine Coyle (Harrison), our very own Yankee Doodle Dandy, was born on the 4th of July in 1929 in Woodside, Queens, NY. She was the daughter of Timothy and Stella Harrison and sister of Ann Ott (deceased of Astoria, LI, NY) and Patricia Reilly of Sparta, NJ. She attended William Cullen Bryant High School and was the recipient of the NY City Schools Typing and Shorthand award and graduated in 1947. In 1949, Rita married the love of her life, Harold Coyle and they made Staten Island, NY their home and they raised their 5 children there. During her life Rita lived in Jacksonville, FL, Framingham, MA, Toms River, NJ, Morganville, NJ and most recently in Avon, CT. While living in Framingham, MA and Jacksonville FL, Rita worked as a secretary at Hurley Manor and St. Patricks Manor and discovered a fondness for working with the elderly and Alzheimer's patients. She had a passion for the people she worked with but her true joy in life came from her five children, 14 grand-children and 11 great- grandchildren. Rita will be remembered for her caring heart, a home that was warm and welcoming to all , and wonderful home cooked meals. She loved music, family singalongs and taught all of her children to dance. She was an ardent football fan especially when her family was involved. She is survived by her loving husband Harold, her children Kathleen & Peter Marzano, Avon, CT, Barbara Coyle & Jim Shaw, Ulster, PA, Kevin and Louise Coyle, Cincinnatti, OH, Harry Coyle, Brian & Michele Coyle, Morganville, NJ. Her 14 grandchildren and 11 great -grandchildren are Peter, Solie, Layla & Isabelle Marzano; Tricia, Mark, Mark, Ryan and Allie Michna; Kathy, Alan, K.C, Brayden and Stella Green; Shawn, Stephen, Kate and Gavin George; Jesse, Jessica and Lily Shaw; Rhody Shaw and fiance Matt O'Donnell; Jenlain Coyle; Miranda and Candice Papierowicz, Rebecca Lawson, Jacklyn Coyle; and Brian, Christopher and Erin Coyle. The Coyle Family would like to thank the caring staff at River Ridge of Avon, CT and a very special note of gratitude to Mclean's Hospice nurses, aides and volunteers. The wake will be at Hanley's Funeral Home, Staten Island, New York on Wednesday, April 27 and the Mass of Celebration will be at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church on Staten Island on Thursday, April 28th. The family requests that in lieu of flowers any memorial donations in Rita's name be made to McLean's Hospice, 75 Great Pond Road, Simsbury, CT 06070

Mrs. Coyle was not a very tall woman, which was in stark contrast to the amount of energy and enthusiasm she always had whenever I went over to visit their home in New Dorp. She was a good influence on us back in our H.S. days and she sure kept Kevin, Harry and Brian in line! God Bless and Rest in Peace! My condolences to the Coyle Family .........Nick Gennaro - SI, NY.

Mrs Coyle:
I will fondly remember the innumerable days I spent in your homes on 4th Street and Beach Avenue. While we tried your patience on many a day and you may have gotten your Irish up a time or two, I never remember you actually kicking us out (the thought probably crossed your mind). You served as a second mother and kept the OLQP boys out of trouble. I am grateful for the warm and loving manner in which you looked after "your boys".
To the extended Coyle Family:
Our thoughts are with you and we share your loss.
