Robert Loeffler Obituary

LOEFFLER, Robert "Bob" Dewey Robert "Bob" Dewey Loeffler, 87, of Avon, husband of Janice (Biro) Loeffler for 63 years, passed away Monday, (December 29, 2008) at Avon Health Care. They lived in Avon for 55 years. He was born in West Rockhill Township, PA, son of the late Joseph P. and Maude (Dewey) Loeffler. He was a graduate of Souderton High School class of 1938, Williamson Mechanical Trade School class of 1941 and received his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Drexel University in 1948 where he was inducted into both Pi Tau Sigma, the mechanical engineering honorary society, and Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honorary society. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps as a flight instructor teaching cadets, before being assigned to the crew of a B-29 Superfortress as pilot and commander. After graduating from Drexel University, he came to Connecticut to work for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, Kaman, the Village Water Company of Simsbury, where he served as president for many years, and Aquarion Water Companies. He served on the Avon Board of Education. After the war, he was an enthusiastic recreational flyer, and was happiest when able to slip the bonds of Earth and wheel and soar in the third dimension. He was also proud to be a member of the Quiet Birdmen. Bob and his wife Janice enjoyed many travel adventures, visiting numerous countries around the globe. Besides his wife, he is survived by three children, Dr. Robert D. Loeffler and his wife Gloria of Key West, FL, William D. Loeffler of Los Angeles, CA, and Peggy Loeffler and her husband Greg Hoffmann of Colebrook; three grandchildren, Graham and Woodrow Hoffmann, and William Olesinski. He dearly loved his grandsons and delighted in attending their ballgames and school functions and spending time with them whenever possible. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph D. Loeffler. His family would like to thank the Avon Health Center, Extended Family of Simsbury, and Arden Court of Avon as well as his many friends and Avon neighbors for their care, concern and friendship. His family will receive friends Saturday, January 24, from 1-2 p.m. at Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Rd., Avon. I had the opportunity of meeting Bob late in life. As pilots we had many stories to share. It would have been a privilege to know him longer. So long, friend!

For many years, we enjoyed sitting next to Bob & Jan during Graham's (and Ben's) baseball games. They were SUCH supporters of their grandsons sports teams for so many years. Bob will sorely be missed.

Bob and Jan are our "best friends" So many fireside chats, dinners lunches ,trips ,weekends on the island , we almost always had Bob help Craig move another refrigerator across the beach ! There is a huge hole in my life , but what lucky people we are to have had such friends
