Robert Lombardo Obituary

Robert C. Lombardo, 57, of Manchester, loving husband of Dianne (Simler) Lombardo, died Wednesday, (No- vember 20, 2002) at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Hartford, February 2, 1945, son of the late Sam and Jeanne (Moretti) Lombardo, he was raised in East Hartford and had been a resident of Manchester since 1974. Bob was the vice-president and co-owner of Trash-Away, Inc. of New Britain, a family owned company started in 1971. He was a part owner of All Waste, Inc. of Hartford. He was a longtime member of the car club, Corvettes Limited of Connecticut and participated in many charitable events through the club. He enjoyed spending his summers at the family's home on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. Bob had a unique ability to draw out the best in people and left a positive effect on the lives he touched. The most important people in his life were his wife, children and family. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter, Todd R.S. Lombardo of Manchester; Tracy L. Sapere and her husband Emil Sapere, III of Vernon; four brothers, Peter G. Lombardo and his wife Rosemary of Glastonbury, Santo Lombardo and his wife Nancy of Glastonbury, Donald Lombardo and Anthony Lombardo, both of East Hartford; a sister, Adele L. Greene and her husband Donald of East Hartford; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service and celebration of his life will be held Sunday, Nov. 24, 3 p.m., at South United Methodist Church, corner of Hartford Road and Main Street, Manchester. Friends may call at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester, on Saturday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Ave., New York, NY 10021. I am so sorry for your loss. I used to work at All Waste and Bobby ALWAYS made a point to come and say hello to me and see how my diabetes was going. Every Christmas he would buy all the ladies chocolates and never forgot to get me sugar-free chocolates. I feel so blessed to have know such a incredible man.
