VASSEUR, Robert E.
Robert E. "Bob" Vasseur, 91, of Enfield, beloved husband for 70 years of Doris (Kennedy) Vasseur, entered into eternal peace Saturday, (July 13, 2013) at Parkway Pavilion in Enfield. The son of the late Ledger and Margaret (O'Brien) Vasseur, Bob was born and raised in Enfield and attended St. Joseph's School and graduated from Enfield High School. A U.S. Army World War II Veteran, Bob served his country honorably in the Western Pacific Theater and was awarded the Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, and the American Theater Ribbon. He was employed by the former Bigelow Sanford Co. for over 25 years as a Supervisor, and following was employed by the Enfield Public Schools retiring as Head Custodian. He was a member of the VFW of Enfield and was also a Quarter Master and a former member of the Pinkerton Guard. In his free time, Bob was an avid Deer Hunter as he loved the outdoors. He also enjoyed doing yard work as he was very proud of maintaining his lawn and home. Besides his loving wife Doris; Bob is survived by a son, Robert E. Vasseur, Jr. and his wife Sheila of Somers; three daughters, Susan Tautic and her partner Charles Settino of East Hartford, Charlene Grinuk and her husband Mark of Enfield, and Margaret Hupfer and her husband Robert of Springfield, MA; a brother, Ken Johnson of Niagra falls, NY; 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Bob was predeceased by two brothers, Charles and Clement Vasseur.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday July 16, 2013, at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield, followed by burial with military honors at St. Patrick's King St. Cemetery. Bob's family will receive relatives and friends at Leete-Stevens, Monday, July 15, from 4-7 p.m. Donations in Bob's memory may be made to the Parkway Pavilion Recreation Fund, 1157 Enfield St, Enfield, CT 06082.
