Ronald Bacon Obituary

Ronald "Ron" E. Bacon, beloved dad, grandpa, Pop Pop, and friend, passed away on December 19, 2020 in Bristol, Connecticut. The son of the late Elwood and Dorothy Bacon, he was born on September 2, 1936, and grew up in Thetford Center, Vermont, a place he would carry with him all his life. He attended high school at Thetford Academy, after which he enrolled in aeronautical and airplane maintenance school in New Jersey. He worked as an airline and auto mechanic, and then at Jacobs Manufacturing in West Hartford, Connecticut. For almost 30 years, he worked at Mott Corporation in Farmington, Connecticut as the manager of quality control until his retirement. One can't write about Ron and not mention his penchant for teasing (his love language), his affinity for tinkering, his avid following of local band The Chaparrals, his fondness for Klondike Campgrounds, and, most notably, his love of nature, especially manifested in his decades-long pastime of maple sugaring. He gave many a tour at both Maple Corner Farm and Lamothe's Sugar House, where he passed out warm maple syrup samples to visitors and happily traversed the woods fixing sap lines and checking taps. Underneath his teasing nature and stubborn Yankee persona was a steadiness and love for his family and friends, a consistency in care, and an absolute assuredness that one could call upon him at any time, but especially when in need. Ron leaves behind his daughter Monica and son-in-law Michael Petrizzo; four grandkids, Leah Sutherland (Joe), Jeanne Petrizzo, Natalie Petrizzo, and James Petrizzo; three great-grandkids, Evangeline, Desmond, and Jaina Sutherland; brother Dennis and sister-in-law Sue; three nephews; and a host of loving friends. A memorial service will be delayed until people can safely assemble and share in the abundance of wonderful memories of Ron Bacon. Ron was such a sweet guy. He welcomed me to the building and his personality and his jokes along with a bit of teasing was great. Was very much the joker. Lovely man. Will never forget him. My deepest condolences to his Family. He will be missed.,

Please accept my sincere condolences on the recent loss of your loved one. Ron and I worked together for many years at Mott. He was a great mentor and friend. As newbies to camping Ron got my family and I involved in camping at Klondike when he invited us to spend a weekend on his site. After setting up our pop-up we socialized over pie and Ron talked about the spotting of bears in the area. He said we'd be fine as long as we didn't leave the pop-up during the nite. After we retired we started to hear rustling of the brush outside. We thought it was a bear! In the morning we told Ron. He told us it was a good thing he warned us not to leave the pop-up since he saw the bear. After stringing us along for a while he admitted that he made the noises when he went outside to change the propane tank on his trailer. He was the jokester. We eventually became one of Ron's neighbor at Klondike and had a lot of good times and memories.

I have fond memories of Ronald as I grew up in Thetford also and am still there! I knew both his parents and we were distant family. I would often see him when he would come up every spring to check on his parents gravesite and make sure it looked nice. I will miss him.
