Ronald Marks Obituary

Ronald A. Marks, 72 of Wells, Maine passed away peacefully on September 6, 2023, while surrounded by his family. He had a valiant four-month battle with brain cancer.

Ron was born in Meriden, CT on May 25, 1951, to the late Russell and Hazel Marks. As a child, Ron spent most of his years growing up in Willington and Tolland, CT.

Ron is survived by his wife Joan Marks of Wells, ME, daughter Kim Sztaba, son-in law Peter Sztaba, and granddaughters Madison and Taylor Sztaba, all of Tolland, CT as well as his son Chris Marks, daughter-in law Ashley Marks and grand-daughter Caitlyn Marks all of Belleview, FL. He is also survived by his sister Carol Hockla. He is predeceased by his parents Hazel and Russell Marks, brother John Marks and sister Rose Cournoyer.

Ron served honorably in the US Coast Guard active duty in 1972 and then served in the US Coast Guard reserves until his discharge in 1978. In 1980 he began a 30-year service as an employee of the US Postal Service in Hartford, CT until he retired from there at the age of 58.

Ron loved the outdoors, with many activities centering around fishing, hunting, and boating. Over his lifetime he visited most of the ponds and lakes throughout CT to fish for bass. He enjoyed spending time with his friends where they played games like corn-hole, horseshoes and frisbee while sampling his renowned venison chili.

As an enthusiast of classic cars, he took pride in the restoration of his 65 Mustang Convertible where he was able to enjoy cruises along the Maine coastline beach areas when he moved from Tolland to Maine in 2018. Ron was also an avid collector of breweriana in which he conducted remodels of both his basements within his homes in Tolland and Maine to be able to display his special pieces while sharing a beer and a story with friends on how he acquired them. Ron loved to brew many different types of beer and wine, all of which he shared with friends and family.

Ron really looked forward to spending time with his granddaughters Madison, Taylor and Caitlyn, and he will forever be the girls' "Bampa".

During Ron's battle with cancer, he was able to survive long enough to celebrate his 50th wedding anniversary with his wife Joan.

Joan and Family, we are so sorry for your loss. Our prayers for you and the family will continue.
Working with Ron for all those years made the days go by a lot easier. He was the first person I hunted deer with. We also fished together for many years. Whether it was opening day for trout, sitting in his boat on countless lakes with that electric blue 6" auger tail, I swear he knew each bass in Crystal Lake by first name, or ice fishing. The guy could catch bass! I´ll never forget our adventure getting lost (not his fault) in the woods at Breakneck Pond and being rescued by Joan. How about the ringer-after-ringer at a Bolduc picnic or the tradition of going to Joe's every February to grind up some venison for burger/sausage. Ron was always ready to share one of his latest batches of suds or head out for some rocks and wings. He was especially happy and proud talking about his grandkids. Ron was a great guy, friend and will be missed. Thanks Ron, rest in peace.
