Ruth Walsh Obituary



Ruth Kathleen (Donnelly) Walsh passed away peacefully on April 1, 2017 with her family by her side. Born in New Britain, she was the only daughter of the late Arthur Donnelly and Evelyn (Grey) Donnelly. She was predeceased by her husband, and love of her life, James D. Walsh. Together they raised four children, William, Brian, Margaret and James. She was also predeceased by their infant son John. After attending New Britain High School, graduating in 1948, she went on to graduate from the New Britain General Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. She dedicated her professional career to nursing at many places including New Britain General Hospital and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Michigan. Ruth orchestrated many family vacations in Westbrook, CT and Block Island, RI for her family, the memories of which they will cherish forever. The many family holiday traditions she established including Christmas Eve Dinner and Thanksgiving Jeopardy will be carried on by her loving family which includes her eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Sarah, Heather, Shannon, Jessica, Michael, Erin and Ian. Ruthie was a selfless individual who taught her children and grandchildren love, compassion and loyalty. Her wisdom, dedication to family and sense of humor will be missed immensely. Visitation will be Friday, April 7th from 5:00 to 7:00pm and Saturday, April 8th from 9:00 to 10:00am at Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Square in New Britain, CT. A Christian Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 8th, 10:00am at St. Joseph Church, 195 South Main St. in New Britain, CT. Burial will be a private ceremony at the convenience of her family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the Salvation Army 78 Franklin Square, New Britain, CT 06051.
