BERNSTEIN, M.D., Scott
Scott Bernstein, M.D., age 60, of West Hartford, died after a long illness on April 28, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Nancy Palmbaum Bernstein and beloved father of Dr. Megan Bernstein (husband Scott Katz) of Andover, MA and Julie Bernstein of New York. He will be greatly missed by all of us. Special thanks to our many neighbors and friends who went the extra mile to help us get through this very challenging period in our lives, and especially Scott's care givers (you know who you are). Before his illness, he was a proud and devoted physician at Hartford Hospital, working with patients in his office, the hospital, and in the dialysis and transplant programs. He was loved by so many patients and families, and received thousands of letters upon his untimely retirement.
His funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2013 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Interment will follow at Beth El Temple Cemetery, Jackson St. Ext., Avon. Mourners may pay their respects at the family's home following the burial. Shiva will be observed at the family's home through Wednesday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to Hartford Hospital's Dialysis and Transplant Fund for the benefit of patients, families, and nursing education, or to the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. My sincere condolences on Scott's passing. I enjoyed working with and knowing him. A real gentleman and consummate physician. He was liked and respected by all. Low key, hardworking and so professional. I respected his opinions and felt fortunate to work with him.
Thoughts and prayers are with Nancy and the family.

Dear Nancy,Megan and Julie,
It was such a joy for me to have worked with Scott in our old Kaiser days. He was so well thought of by colleagues and patients. Yearly, we shared parental naches at Hall High's Pops and Jazz, as we celebrated our kids' growing up so beautifully.
Dave and I send you our deepest condolences, in this time of great loss, which followed such a very difficult and challenging illness.
