SAFFER, Sheldon P. Sheldon P. Saffer, 78, of West Dennis, died Thursday, (June 24, 2004) at Cape Cod Community Hospital of a heart attack. Devoted husband of Lois Saffer (nee Zionts); beloved father of David of Hatfield, MA, Wendy Saffer Johnston of Farmington, and Judith Auerbach of Monsey, NY; loving father-in-law to Tom, Lisa and Neil; adored grandfather of nine; and cherished brother of Lenore Tagerman. He was a veteran of World War II. He graduated from American International College with a BS in Business Administration. He began his career as a life insurance agent for Equitable Life, then was President and Treasurer of New England Smelting Works. He was President of the Association of Brass & Bronze Ingot Mfg., Past President of of Kodimoh Synagogue, Heritage Academy and Chevra Kadisha. He was a Shriner and served as a member of the Jewish Nursing Home of W. Massachusetts and on the Board of Directors for the Springfield Jewish Federation, and as Trustee of the Ida Margoles Trust for Jewish Education and the Louis and Shirley Saffer Kodimoh Foundation for Jewish Education. An avid golfer, he was a member of Bass River Golf Club. The funeral will be Sunday, 9 a.m. at Kodimoh Synagogue, 124 Sumner Avenue, Springfield, MA. The Harold R. Ascher & Son Memorial Chapel is in charge. Shiva will be at the home of David and Lois Saffer, 57 North St., Hatfield, MA, through the week. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jewish Geriatric Services, 770 Converse St., Longmeadow, MA 01106 or Heritage Academy, 594 Converse St., Longmeadow, MA 01106.

Though we did not have the opportunity to see each other often, we always thought of him as a warm, friendly and loving cousin. We shall miss him. His life enhanced his community and those around him.
