VINCENT, Shirley (Goodman)
Shirley Goodman Vincent, of Canton, died Wednesday (June 6, 2012) at Cherry Brook Health Care Center in Canton. She was born December 22, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Louis and Yetta (Waxman) Goodman, and had lived in Brooklyn prior to moving to Canton two years ago. Mrs. Vincent spent her early adult life working as a barmaid in various Brooklyn bars. She enjoyed partying, dancing, smoking and drinking. She was a big fan of early rock and roll and R&B music, and attended many of the legendary early rock and roll shows in Brooklyn. She has a unique spirit and energy which clearly differentiated her from the more traditional women of her era. In later years she became a star salesperson in both Newspaper Advertising Sales and Pharmaceutical Sales. She enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, and watching her grandchildren grow up. Later in life, she became active in helping the Manna Program in Hartford which helps to feed the poor and the homeless. She is survived her son Don Goodman and his wife Annie Kelleher Goodman of Canton; her sister, Jacqueline Trincellito of New Hyde Park, NY; her brother, Martin Goodman of New York City; and her grandchildren, Ethan J. Goodman and Elissa K. Goodman of Simsbury. Funeral service and burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the Manna Program, in care of Hands On Hartford, 330 Main St., 3rd floor, Hartford, CT., 06106-1851.
