Sigvard Hallgren Obituary

Sigvard O. Hallgren, of Branford, walked into the arms of his Lord on May 4, 2016, after courageously living with cancer for four years. He was the beloved husband of 53 years to Duane Zercie Hallgren. He was born in Orebro, Sweden, on June 6, 1938; son of the late John and Karin Bergquist Hallgren. He graduated from the University of Hartford as a Mechanical Engineer and from the Rensselear Graduate Center, Hartford with a MS in Management. Mr. Hallgren was a Vice-President of Blakeslee Arpaia Chapman, Inc., where he worked from 1974 until retiring in 2001. He was a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Connecticut, and an active and charter member of several construction equipment maintenance associations for which he served as Treasurer, Chairman or President for many years. He was also active in the Southington YMCA and his local church parish in Southington. He was a daily communicant of St. Mary Church, in Branford, where he also served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Holy Eucharist. He was a Third Degree member of Eldorado Council #10, Knights of Columbus at St. Mary. Besides his wife, he is survived by his four wonderful sons: Timothy and his wife Bernadette, of Berlin, NH, Thomas and his wife Mariko, of North Tustin, CA, David and his wife Melissa, of Southington, and Anders and his wife Allyson, of Westwood, NJ; his eight treasured grandsons: Noah (Jillian), Anders, Jacob, Jonathan, Tyler, Kai, Bryce, and Eli; his great-granddaughter, Gabriella; and his brother-in-law, Reverend David F. Zercie, of Holy Apostles Seminary, Cromwell, CT. He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara T. Hallgren. Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM at St. Mary Church, Branford. There are no calling hours and burial will be private. The W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford is in charge of arrangements.
