Susan Peterson Obituary

Susan J Peterson, 74 of Vernon passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side, after a courageous battle with breast cancer on July 31st, 2023. She was born on January 5th, 1949 in Hartford CT, daughter to the late James J. Lattanzio and Marian L. Ingrahm. After moving to Rockville, she grew up across the street from and later married [October 12th, 1968] her best friend and late husband Russell S. Peterson.

Shortly after her husband passing in 1988, Sue decided to enroll at Manchester Community College in 1990, where she made the Presidents List, the Dean's List and was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa Society. She earned her Associate of Science Degree in June 1993.

Sue had a strong love for dogs and had a few over her life. She made it known that at times she enjoyed the company and companionship of dogs more than people! She would constantly take care of dogs for her daughter and her friends and buy excessive amounts of toys and treats for her son's dogs Bella and Jasper. Nothing brought more joy to her than the dogs in her life! She was involved for a few years with The Red Hat Society. Sue also had a great fascination for and spent much time traveling to Maine, a place she loved to go on vacation, often visiting sometimes 3 or 4 times a year. When she had trouble driving to Maine as often as she had liked, she became involved with the Vernon Senior Center taking many day trips and being involved with activities offered by the group.

She is survived by her daughter, Traci Peterson of Vernon and her son Jeffrey Peterson and his wife Melanie Peterson of Canaan, Maine; her grandson Dillon J. Peterson and his wife Willow Peterson of Vernon, and granddaughter Andrea Faniel and her husband Micheal Faniel Jr of Windsor Locks.

She leaves behind several close relatives, her Aunt Carol Portuese of Somers, and her children and a cousin, Selene Lattanzio of Chicopee, MA and several other cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She is also survived by a few close friends, Marsha Christian of Manchester, who was her sidekick on many a Senior Center trips, Darleen Humphrees of Vernon and Pam Surridge of Vernon. Sue also leaves behind a longtime friend that she met when her husband was stationed in the Army in the late 60s, Sue Savage of Rolla, Missouri.

Calling hours will be Monday, August 21st, 2023, from 4 to 6pm at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road, (Rte. 83) Vernon.

A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 22nd at 11 am. Burial will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery in Rockville.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio or Best Friends Animal Society,

https://bestfriends.org/donate. These were two charities that Sue was extremely fond of.
