Taivo Raig

1935 - 2021

Mr. Taivo Raig, 86, a native of Estonia, and longtime West Hartford resident, passed away on Friday morning, December 17, 2021 at his home. He leaves behind his partner Becki Colton and her wonderful family. Taivo Raig was born on July 14, 1935, in Tallinn, Estonia, son of Eduard and Salme Raig. He and his brother Eero and the parents survived World War II and moved to the United States in 1949. He graduated from Hall High School in West Hartford and then joined the US Army, serving in the mid-1950s, stationed in Hawaii. Returning home, he took accounting courses and worked in the Hartford insurance industry for several years. He eventually took a position with the State of Connecticut Health Department where he ran the audio-visual communications shop and retired after a long career in 1995. Taivo loved life. He and his beloved Becki travelled on numerous cruises from Belize to Alaska to Hawaii and more. In younger days, he was an avid tennis player, and he always enjoyed great music and live concerts. He loved to discuss politics, economics, and history, but most of all, the stock market. At the same time, he loved his soaps and Downton Abbey, and times spent enjoying a beer at one of his favorite places, American Legion, Post 96, where he was a member. Taivo helped many people, quietly and graciously. He knew he had special skills that everyone needed – especially in computers – and he enjoyed every spare minute of his time rebuilding old laptops and giving them to friends. He is now with the angels. Taivo is survived by his partner Becki Colton and her daughter Megan, and his cousins in Estonia. He was predeceased by his brother Eero. He will also be greatly missed by Becki's extended family and numerous other friends and neighbors. Arrangements: A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2021, at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford, CT.
