Veronica Archaki Obituary

ARCHAKI, Veronica "Ronnie" (Swerko) Veronica "Ronnie" (Swerko) Archacki, of New Britain, who turned 90 on May 14, went to her eternal rest on Monday (May 26, 2008), in Wethersfield. She was the widow of her true love, Joseph S. Archacki who died on the same date, May 26 in 1991, five days before they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. She was born in New Hartford, daughter of the late Anna (Kanca) Swerko and John Swerko. She worked at Russell & Erwin in New Britain and Topps Department Store until her retirement. She served as secretary for the local chapter of the Greek Catholic Union for many years. A lifelong member of the Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church in New Britain, she organized many church functions with her husband and family members. Ronnie will be remembered as a woman with great faith in God and boundless love and devotion to her family. She was kind and gentle and always wanted to help anyone she could. She had a great sense of humor and was an avid Red Sox and UConn girls' basketball fan. She loved her family very much and cared for many of them in times of need through the years. A wonderful mother and grandmother, she is survived by her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Sally Zito and her husband, Brian F. Zito of Wethersfield; and by her beloved granddaughter, Kimberly Zito, whom she was so proud of and loved so much. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Timura of New Britain; numerous nieces and nephews, including her cherished Godchild, who was like a second daughter, Mary Pucci of Pompano Beach, FL; two people who were very special to her, her son-in-law's mother, Phyllis Zito, of Wethersfield; and her dear friend, Nancy Butts of East Hartford. She was pre-deceased by her brothers, Michael, Daniel and Henry Swerko and her sister, Alice Pucci. Her family would like to extend special gratitude to all of the wonderful, caring people at Wethersfield Health Care Center and to the wonderful hospice angels for their support and kindness to Veronica and her family. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, at 9:15 a.m. from the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain, followed by a Requiem Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church. Interment will be in Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, New Britain. Relatives and friends are invited to call TODAY (Wednesday) from 4-8 p.m., with a Panachyda Service at 7 p.m., at Burritt Hill. Memorial donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church, 121 Beaver St., New Britain, CT 06053 or to CT VNA Partners Hospice, 111 Founders Plaza, Suite 200, East Hartford, CT 06108. June 2, 2008

DEAR SALLY & FAMILY / MAR & FAMILY: I'M SO VERY SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS. YOUR MOM/AUNT/GRANDMA WAS SUCH A GREAT LADY! I ALWAYS ADMIRED HER, FOR TAKING CARE OF EVERYONE. SHE ALWAYS MADE ME FEEL "SPECIAL", WHENEVER I CAME OVER TO SEE MAR. (I'D LIKE TO SHARE THIS POEM W/ YOU. IT HELPS ME,WHENEVER I'M MISSING SOMEONE IN HEAVEN. ***THE LIGHT OF A DISTANT STAR CONTINUES TO REACH THE EARTH, LONG AFTER THE STAR ITSELF IS GONE. IN THE SAME WAY, THE LIGHT & LOVE YOUR LOVED ONE GAVE WILL CONTINUE TO SHINE IN YOUR HEARTS.***)

Dear Sally, Brian and Kim;

We are so saddened by your loss. I know that your Mom meant so much to you. She had a wonderful journey through life. She gave much of herself to her family and others and you were blessed to have her for so long. I know you will miss your best friend very, very much, but I'm sure she and your Dad are happy together again, at last.

All our love to you all at this sad time and always,

Mel and Rich Lesniewski
