Warren Moon Obituary

Warren R. Moon, 92, of Southington, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday January 22, 2014 at Amberwood Nursing Home in Farmington. He had been the loving husband of Mildred (Klasner) Moon for 20 years. Born in Troy, NY on April 14, 1921 to the late Clarence W. and Ruby (Bonesteel) Moon, he had been a longtime Southington resident. Warren proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy on a destroyer during WWII in the Pacific. He retired in 1985 from Caldor after 41 years in retail sales. After his retirement, he worked at McDonalds and Beacon Pharmacy, always keeping busy. He loved animals, especially horses. He was a member of the Masons for over 50 years and was a member and past governor of the Moose Lodge in Southington. Warren enjoyed sharing jokes and stories with his family, friends and anyone who would listen. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and his kind heart. In addition to his wife Mildred who he shared a total of 30 wonderful, happy years with, he is survived by his daughter Deanna Moon of West Hurley, NY; his daughter Linda A. Meynell and her husband David of Southington; his daughter Nancy D. Akell and her husband Bruce Morris of Bristol; and his son William P. Akell of Marina del Rey, CA; his niece Marilyn Sinstack of Oneonta, NY and his beloved cat and dog, Sweetie Pie and April. He was predeceased by his son Greggory Moon, his brother Kenneth Moon and his sister Marian Sinstack.

A celebration of Warren's life with military honors will be held on Friday January 31, 2014 at 6 p.m. at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville, CT. Calling hours will be held from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. before the service. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. I first met Warren when working at the West St. McDonald's of southington. He always had a big smile for you all the time. There is another person besides myself who misses him too. So very sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences to his wife and family.

Warren, sweet, friendly, kind, funny and warm. In the time I had to get to know you it became clear Millie had a jewel in her life. You two shared everything, Uconn girls basketball, country fairs, country music and horse pulls. There will be a void in the family as large as your name. Rest Mr. Moon, you are forever loved and greatly missed by all who knew you.
