William Horton Obituary

William Hanson Horton, Jr., of Guilford, CT passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. He had loving family members with him holding his hand when he passed. Will was born in Windsor, CT on April 6, 1950. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Dr. William H. Horton and Anne F. Horton, of Guilford, CT. He is survived by his daughters, Kelly Horton Giordano and husband John, and their children, Luke and Brooke of Norwalk, CT, and Shannon Horton of Norwich, CT and her daughter Laila; three sisters, Marcia Jordan and husband Chuck of Emerald Isle, NC, Barbara O'Connor and husband Rick of Wolfeboro, NH, and Jane Cantlin and husband Bill of Thornton, NH; two former spouses, Susan Richardson Horton and Ann Marie Horton. Will was a graduate of Hopkins School in New Haven, CT and University of Vermont, in Burlington. He had many fond memories of growing up in Sachem's Head, Guilford driving his Whaler across the Long Island Sound. Will was an incredible athlete and by chance had the opportunity to do it all over again, he might choose to play professional hockey, baseball or golf. He was also a talented drummer and passionate about music, and an avid handyman having owned his own hardware store and managing another. He had a successful career in sales that spanned many years. In the mid-1990s, Will became a devoted member of the Hebron, CT Volunteer Fire Department as an EMT and went on to become Hebron's Fire Chief. Will was quick on his feet when helping others in emergency situations which gave him a great sense of purpose. He was a gentle man with a beautiful smile which we will miss deeply and remember fondly. All services and burial are private. Arrangements entrusted to the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, Springfield, MA. Will is always with me - I choose to think of his wonderful smile - his comments that brought a smile - I think of his children everyday and love that they grow as incredible adults

I am sadden to just learn of Will's passing. Will was one of my 4 roommates during my junior and senior years at UVM in a house that we rented in Winooski, VT. I have many good memories of our times at our house joking around and a few of us wreseling and beating on each other for fun. Also many good time at SAE. He and my other roommates gave me a dozen duck decoys for our wedding present.
Sincerely,

I am saddened to learn of Will's passing, and offer my condolences to his family. I grew up in Sachem's Head and lived right behind Will's house. I have such good memories of baseball games in the Koncz's yard next door and hockey on the pond across from the beach. One of his home runs went right through our picture window into the living room. My dad congratulated him on his athletic ability. We were just kids, but I remember Will as just a genuinely nice person, always friendly and patient with all of us . I know he will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Warms my heart to read these messages from those who loved you. I know you are watching over me and Laila. You always told me you loved me more than I would ever know and I feel the same. Love, Shannon and Laila xoxox....

Will has left our family some great memories. He was sick past couple of years but I know he is in no pain now. He had a strong faith and is with our Lord. Just a few days before he died he told me our God is good and he was thankful. So as sad as it is to know I can't speak with him or see him, I know he is healed. I love Will with his laugh and his sweet kindness to me and my husband and sons. He loved them. We always lived far apart as adults but he'd call regularly. Praise God for my sweet brother. Marcia

Remembering with fondness a good-hearted man, whose fondness for a good "theological" discussion afforded us hours of dialogue. May his graciousness in this life now be rewarded in newness of life.
