William Liebman Obituary

Dr. William "Bill" Liebman Dr. William "Bill" Liebman, of Glastonbury, passed away January 27, 2021, at age 98. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the oldest son of the late Abraham and Sally Lieberman. Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Lisbeth ("Betty") Liebman, brother Dr. Jerome Liebman and wife, Judith, and daughter-in-law, Donna Liebman. After graduating from Northwestern University Dental School, Bill served in the military as a primary care dentist stationed in Hardin, Montana, where he worked with patients from the Crow Indian Reservation. He and Betty then moved to Connecticut and, soon after, Dr. Liebman opened his private dental practice in Glastonbury. He was extremely passionate about his work and dedicated to his patients, until his retirement in his late 70's. Bill was a kind, honest, and supportive husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and golf partner. Starting in his 30's, he became hooked on golf and was a dedicated student of the game. Even at the age of 96, he was still looking to master the perfect golf swing. Playing golf with Bill was always a great experience as he cared more about how his partners were playing than about his own game, which so clearly demonstrated his personality. He also excelled at bridge; he and Betty were a formidable team in duplicate bridge circles. Other passions were dancing, including many years of square dancing with Betty, and both tennis and table tennis. Bill was an avid reader and a life-long learner of all things. He loved the performing arts and was the consummate sports fan, especially of New York Giants football, UConn basketball, and the Boston Red Sox. He was a true philanthropist – his catalog of charities ranged from disease-based research and veterans' advocacy to various organizations supporting animal rights and the environment. At age 97, Bill took up pickleball and played several times a week even though he could no longer run. He also continued to play table tennis, participated in a daily exercise video, and took daily walks. During this period, he was incredibly fortunate to have three amazing care givers, Elizabeth, Anna, and Amy, who provided exceptional care and allowed him to enjoy the highest possible quality of life in his own home. Bill leaves his devoted sons and daughter: Michael and wife Kristin of Laramie, WY; Steven; Wendy; Jed and wife Cherrye, all of Glastonbury; and brother Arnie and wife Valerie Lieberman of Long Valley, NJ. He also leaves two grandchildren, Rachel Liebman and husband Charles Cherrington of Eagle, CO; and Adam Liebman and wife Mira Qi of Ithaca, NY; and three great grandchildren, Joel and Leslie Cherrington and Ari Qi Liebman. Bill will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arbor Day Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice. The family hopes to schedule a memorial service at a future date.

Bill Liebman’s age defies gravity
At 95 he would still grab a tee
With putter in hand
Or out of the sand
Bill could still fill that cavity !

He was a dear friend and golfing buddy for many years.
His courtly manner will be greatly missed.

Wow, passing of a legend. I remember many a time in Dr L’s chair getting my teeth filled. He was always kind and compassionate. Our entire family were his patients. Great fellow. Condolences..

Millenia ago an ancient homonid first uttered the words "he was a good man". Nothing more epitomized by admiration and friendship with Bill than those words. After decades of enjoying his comradeship on the golf course two or three times a week, my fondest memories of him will always be centered on the words "he was a good man".

Much love to Wendy and Jed and all who are grieving. Your family meant so much to me growing up. What a wonderful life he led! And what a wonderful dentist he was. I loved your Mom so much too. May their memories always be a blessing.
